Mustang Convertible What kind of convertible will your Mustang be - family fun-in-the-sun car... full-fledged sports soft-top or luxury convertible? Mustang Convertible standard equipment gives you a great head start. A 5-ply, vinyl-bonded top (in color choice of black, white or tan) with big "zip-out" window for straight-through ventilation. A color-keyed, stretch-taut boot to stow the top neat and trim. Deep-foam bucket seats that adjust individually. Choice of six leather-soft, all-vinyl interiors. Full carpeting. Courtesy lighting. A slick 3-speed floor shift. A quick, strong 120-hp, 200-cu. in. Six has the quality and smoothness of a 7-main-bearing crankshaft. Plus all the other standard equipment listed on page 6! Now the fun begins with Mustang options. New full-width front seat with folding center arm rest (in four all-vinyl trim choices). New Interior Decor Group (pages 14-15). T-bar Cruise-O-Matic or 4-speed manual transmissions. Challenger V-8's of 200, 225, 271 hp. Rally Pac. Power top. Front disc brakes. Tonneau cover. Power steering. Ford Air Conditioner. Power brakes. Mustang Interior Decor Group Coming up with a super-luxurious for Mustang is no small order. But see for yourself how Ford stylists have created an interior of special Mustang elegance. There's a custom-tailored look to the leather-soft vinyl seat trim (with Mustang duo-tone embossing) and pleated door panels. Rich, simulated walnut paneling enhances the five-dial instrument cluster, glove box door and console between the seats. Wood-grained deluxe steering wheel looks like select walnut, has sporty perforated metal spokes. Horn buttons are at outer ends of the spokes. Sun visors are safety-padded and color-keyed. Integral arm rests blend smoothly in to each door panel. Door hardware is unique. There is a dual-lens light at the lower edge of each door. It shines a red warning beam to the rear and a "courtesy" beam in to the car when either door is opened. Floor pedals are trimmed in bright metal. Molded carpeting stretches luxuriously wall to wall and trims front cowl panels. Available in your choice of seven colors, the Interior Decor Group is Mustang at its most elegant.

Mustang GT Equipment Group Anybody who goes for performance will go for the new Mustang GT Equipment Group. Then separate items - and what a great performance package it all adds up to! Hot 225-hp Challenger Special V-8 (10 to 1 comp. ratio, 4-barrel carb.). Fully synchronized 3-speed manual floor shift. Dual straight-through exhaust system with flared, chrome tailpipe extensions. And, in addition you get: Mustang's Special Handling Package (heavy-duty suspension, 22 to 1 overall steering ratio. Fade-resisting front disc brakes. A pair of 4-inch fog lamps nestled in the grille. The GT Equipment Group also includes: Five-dial instrument cluster (fuel, temperature, speedometer, oil pressure, amperes) set in a background of black leather-grained vinyl. Handsome "GT" fender badges placed just aft of each front wheel cutout. Bright-metal hood accent molding. And running front to rear along the lower body is the triple stripe that Ford's GT racing car carries in European competition! If you'd like to make some modifications to the basic GT Equipment Group (say move up to the 271-hp Challenger High Performance< V-8 and 4-speed stick shift), go right ahead. Or if you'd prefer some additions (like Rally Pac, red band or white sidewall tires, racing mirrors, styled steel wheels), be our guest. These are separate Mustang options - and there are many more besides - which will fit perfectly with the GT Equipment Group. There where three 289ci V8 offerings in 1965. This is either the 2-barrel or 4-barrel version, cannot tell which. Maybe you can. Post a comment below.

This 289ci, Wimbledon White, 1965, Mustang, convertible with steel styled wheels was at the 2010, Port Angeles, Washington, Mustang show. It was a little overcast later in the day so the top went up and the hood came down.| PrevYear |
