1974 Mustang Ad This Mustang advertisement shows the newly styled Mach-1 Mustang II in a desert in front of some rocky hills. It says, "The new Ford Mustang II." It's a two page ad. This is page 1.
Mustang II Ad Page two of the Mustang II ad says, "It just may be the best news from Detroit in 9 1/2 years." It says that the Mach-1 is just as revolutionary as the first 1964 Mustang. Foremost, this mustang is smaller than last year. It's even a bit smaller than the 1964 Mustang!

Chestnut (Medium Copper) 1974 Mach 1 Mustang This Medium Copper (Chestnut) 1974 Mach 1 is owned by Bobby Aldrich and is our Attitude of the Week starting August 28, 2017. Bobby writes, I bought my 1974 Mustang Mach1 project car from Arnold Marks at Mustangs Etc. in Van Nuys, CA. in July of 2015. The car had been sitting with 152K and a broken off crank pulley bolt since 1986. I had the car shipped to me after seeing a few pictures of it. I love the original cooper color with tan interior. I like my cars some what stock looking. I found the engine was not original to the car and with all of the parts that were missing, I decided to added and delete options to make the car the way I would have ordered it in 1974. It had a 2.8L V6, C/4, A/C, P/S, PB and a 6 3/4" rear end with 3:55 gears. The options I chose were a 2.3L that gave you a $ 229 credit when ordered on the Mach 1. A 4 speed, PB, No A/C or P/S, a 8" rear end with 3:00 gears. Ford didn't offer 3:00 in 74 I just had to have the freeway gears, console, clock, deluxe door panels, rear sway bar and a AM FM 8 track stereo. I also added aftermarket rear window louvers. I've done all of the work on the car myself and made all of the changes the way they would have been done at the factory, I used all of the correct parts including wire harnesses. I used NOS and reproduction parts when I could find them and reconditioned used parts when I had to. 1974 Mustangs are even rare among Mustang II's in 2016. I have found the 1974's have many unique one year only parts. I will use the car for weekend driving and car shows along with my four other Mustang II's.

1974 Mach 1 before restoration Here is the unrestored photo of the car. Bobby writes, I saw a picture of a copper color 74 Mustang mach 1 that I liked, it looked like it was in a wrecking yard. The picture was just on the internet with no information on the location of the car. In the July 2015 issue of Mustang Monthly there was an article on how to buy a classic Mustang. Many of the pictures on information for for the article came from Mustangs ETC. In Van Nuys, CA. In one of the pictures there was a green 69 Mustang coupe project car, Just behind this car I could see the front bumper and header panel of a copper 74 Mustang. I knew that in the other photo I had found of the 74 Mach was the same 69 Mustang. I contacted Arnold Marks at Mustangs Etc. He said he the 74 Mach 1 had been in his storage yard for since 1986. It was parked because of a broken off bolt in the crank shaft. The picture I had found on the internet of the car was old. Since that picture more parts had removed from the car. All of the body side molding had been sold. I bought the car after seeing new pictures of it. Arnold had the car shipped to me. When the car arrived at my house 4th of July weekend 2015 I was able to finally see it in person. The car had 150K miles on it, the the original 2.8L V6 had been replaced with a newer 2.8L and was missing many parts. The drivers side 1/4 panel was full of body filler and had many holes from a dent puller. The right side rocker panel was crushed and the car had many sun damaged parts. The good news was the car no rust other than the battery tray. I love the color of the car and had been wanting a Mustang II Mach 1 for many years. Because the original engine was missing I decided to make the car the way I would have ordered it new in 1974. I added and deleted options to get the car the way I wanted it. Here a are the cars original options and it's new options:
- California Emission
