(from page 9 of the 1978 Collection) Black 1978 Mustang II hatchback with hood scoop and the base entry level Y-code, 93hp (at 4000rpm), 140 cubic inch (2.3 liter), 2 barrel, 4 cylinder engine. The 1974 to 1978 Mustangs were all about economy at the gas station. Lee Iacocca really influenced the design era by forcing these years to be light allowing a low power engine to provide a high performance driving experience.

(from page 18 of the 1978 Collection) Here is a close-up of the custom Cobra snake painted on the hood.

(from page 18 of the 1978 Collection) Is this a Mad Max Interceptor Mustang? No, It's a 1978 Monroe Handler Mustang. It was a body kit featured in a June 1977 Hot Rod Magazine custom build to promote Monroe's Handler line of shock absorbers. For a mere $1250 you could get your own fiberglass body kit. This version wears a set of custom 18-inch KMC dime wheels with Nitti 555 R 275-40/18 tires.

(from page 18 of the 1978 Collection) The Monroe Handler body kit had a huge bumper with lots of vent holes and driving lights way at the bottom near the road.

(from page 18 of the 1978 Collection) The rear body panels are interesting. The rear spoiler wraps around to the rear of the door openings. The indented side on the doors is extended deep into the rear fender kits.

(from page 18 of the 1978 Collection) Check out this rear end view. This is quite different from the stock 1978 Mustang.

(from page 18 of the 1978 Collection) The inside of this car has lots of custom touches. I like the polished metal dash insert around the instruments.

(from page 2 of the 1979 Collection) This is a triple black 1979 Mustang Ghia coupe. Triple black comes from the fact that this car has a black paint job, black vinyl top, and black interior. And yes, it is also a 5.0 Mustang!

(from page 2 of the 1979 Collection) Under the hood is the top-of-the-heap 5.0L V8 engine.

(from page 6 of the 1979 Collection) Black 1979 Turbo Mustang hatchback with a hood scoop, sport wheel covers, and a 2.3L Turbo 4-cylinder engine.
