(from page 1 of the 1993 Collection) Vibrant Red 1993 Mustang SVT Cobra with a 235hp (at 4600rpm), 302 cubic inch, 5.0 liter, electronic fuel injected, V8 engine. This was the final year for the original Fox-chassis after being introduced 14 years prior in 1979 (from 1994 to 2004 an updated version of the rear wheel drive Fox-4 or SN-95 chassis was used). Vibrant red was only offered in 1993 with the Cobra. Other Cobra colors was the Teal and Black. Only 5100 Cobras were offered in 1993. Although Cobra options where available previous years (76-78 Mustang II, Cobra II, and the 1978 King Cobra), this was the first year for the SVT specially designed model for the Mustang.

(from page 1 of the 1993 Collection) The Special Vehicle Team (SVT) was created in late 1991 to increase the Mustang's performance by introducing a limited number of factory built supercars. The Special Vehicle Engineering (SVE) group was formed to design and create the car, while the SVT group did the marketing. This was the car they developed and introduced in record time for 1993.

(from page 1 of the 1993 Collection) Special factory installed disc brakes were required with the higher engine power and handling. The front 10.84 inch rotors and rear 10.07 inch rotors were vented with single-piston calipers. Goodyear 245/45ZR-17 Eagle uni-directional tires where mounted on specially designed Cobra 17 inch seven-black alloy rims.

(from page 1 of the 1993 Collection) The of the 1993 Cobra had a specially designed bumper with dual stainless steel 2.25 inch exhaust pipes. The specially design cobra rear spoiler was anchored in four places to the rear hatch.

This (D-code) engine only came on the Cobra and was the most powerful Mustang engine offered in 1993 until mid year when the Cobra came with an "R-code" engine which increased the base Cobra from $18,505 to $25,692.

(from page 4 of the 1993 Collection) This is a photo time-capsule showing a Vibrant Red 1993 Mustang SVT Cobra hatchback as shipped to a dealer. This car was destine for a Museum due to it being the first year of the SVT Cobra, and it was also our Attitude Of The Week for December 12, 2007. The Cobra wheel inserts were installed by the dealer, as well as removing much of the plastic and stickers inside. This car has the 235hp (at 5000rpm), 5.0 liter (302 cubic inch), Cobra V8 engine with only 16 miles on it.
