Here's a red 1971 Mustang Boss 351 fastback. The owner closed the hood a bit due to the rain. The hood locks are up.

Hood locks were used by racers. They were lighter than the front latch. Racers would pull out the front latch and install hood locks to reduce weight. They also use to put them on the other corners by the windshield. This way the heavy hinges did not have to be used. In the case of these cars, the hood locks were used in addition to the front latch.

We caught up with this red 1971 Mustang Boss 351 fastback in Bloomington, Illinois at a show run by the Central Illinois Mustang Association. Last time we saw this Mustang, it was in the rain. This time it's in the sun!

This is a 1971 Mustang magazine ad. This ad mentions the Mustang winning three Trans-Am and two SCCA National Rally Championships. The Mach-1 featured is very basic - no stripes, spoiler, or mags.
