(from page 17 of the 1968 Collection) Check out this 1968 Mustang Shelby GT-500KR. It's painted a special order shade of orange. It's pictured here with the owner. KR stands for King of the Road. It has the big 428ci Cobra Jet engine and a manual transmission.

(from page 17 of the 1968 Collection) Under the hood is this 428ci V8 Cobra Jet engine. It has a rubber seal around the air cleaner that connects to the air pan on the underside of the hood. This routes air directly from the hood scoops on the front of the hood right into the carb.

The GT-500 King of the Road was introduced midyear and used Mustang's Cobra Jet engine but modified by Shelby to put out 65 more horse power.
