(from page 23 of the 1968 Collection) A gold plate with the owners name was attached to the passenger side dash to commemorate that this was ordered as a Gold Nugget Special.

(from page 23 of the 1968 Collection) Invoice showing the standard features of the Gold Nugget Special. The limited edition special started with a Mustang Hardtop for $2601.78 then added a custom paint. In this case the customer picked Corporate Yellow, but the standard was Sunlit Gold (again, some think it was Anniversary Gold and a bit darker). Next came a 4 speed manual transmission, power steering, AM radio, center console, deluxe seat belts, black vinyl roof, performance tires, wheel covers, louvered hood, and front fascia integrated turn signals. All these options increased the base Mustang hardtop price by $775.51. For this car the dealer added an engine dress up kit, 5 spoke SCCA styled wheels, bright wheel lip moldings, and rocker panel moldings for an additional $121.67.

(from page 23 of the 1968 Collection) We received this email of a second special orange/red Mustang with DSO 710777. This one is under restoration along with a possible other special order Mustang. The owner writes, I have recently bought a 1968 Mustang and discovered the original color was a unique orange. After searching the VIN I discovered your site. I have DSO 710777. If you look closely at the picture you can see the original color of Madagascar Orange where the drip rails where removed. Also the trunk have never been touched and is the original Madagascar Orange. I am excited to re-store her one day and preserve Mustang history. Yet another twist of fate! I also owned a 66 Mustang for over 10 years and finally began to sand her layers of paint. Well as I began to remove door panels, and look in places I found a Bubble Gum color pink. Long story short, we believe this Mustang to have been originally painted Playmate pink which was only a special order in 66 and not officially offered. So I am honored to have 2 rare painted Mustang and hope to be able to save up to restore them to their original glory!

(from page 23 of the 1968 Collection) White 1968 Mustang hardtop owned by Lacy Austin from Kinston, North Carolina. Lacy tells us, "She was a weekend racer in Winston Salem, NC before the late owner became sick. He let me have the car for next to nothing. His best trophy was 'The Eliminator 2005 Super Street Class'. He said, 'Just have fun with it'. I named her Bad Co. and spent the last two years modding and making it street legal. Too many mods to list. If ever a car had 'ATTITUDE' this would be it."

(from page 23 of the 1968 Collection) It has a 302ci engine and an automatic transmission.

(from page 24 of the 1968 Collection) Russell Crull may have found an Iowa/Illinois specially gold painted 1968 territorial special edition Mustang called the Golden Mustang Limited Edition. The special promotional Mustangs featured special gold paint, louvered hood, sport wheel covers, and a special Golden Mustang Limited Edition badge. Russell ordered a Marti report which confirmed that his car is a Golden Mustang and it was ordered by Bemis Motor in Oregon, IL and sold in April of 1968. Stay tuned for more information.

(from page 24 of the 1968 Collection) Sunlit Gold 1968 Gold Nugget Special Mustang hardtop which was only sold in the Seattle/Oregon area. We are still working to determine if a special darker version of Sunlit Gold called Anniversary Gold was used, but the ad from 1968 says Sunlit Gold. Other standard options in the Gold Nugget special package was a 4 speed manual transmission, power steering, AM radio, center console, deluxe seat belts, black vinyl roof, performance tires, wheel covers, louvered hood, and front fascia integrated turn signals.

(from page 26 of the 1968 Collection) Erik from British Columbia is trying to find out more about this Special Order purple painted 1968 Mustang hardtop (and possibly also a Cougar) that was built early 1968 and ordered in BC, Canada (DSO B7, blank paint code). The paint appears to be Ford WT9083 special order purple paint which was used in the Rainbow of Colors - West Coast promotion but we have found no evidence of this promotion further north than the Salt Lake City area. The paint is over a metallic blue but the purple paint is painted everywhere as usually done by the factory when the trim is all off (we've seen other factory special painted Mustangs with a different color underneath). Erik, who owns this car, has a friend in BC who owns a Cougar with the same paint. Contact us or Erik if you know of others or have any ideas.
