(from page 52 of the 1968 Collection) Only Mustang makes it happen! This Mustang magazine advertisement shows what happens to you after you buy a Candyapple Red 1968 Mustang GT fastback. The advertisement reads, Sidney spent Sundays seashelling at the seashore. Then Sidney started digging the '68 Mustang - the great original. Dug the models: hardtop, fastback and convertible. Liked the low price, too, which left Sidney lots of clams to design his own Mustang, Sidney style. Now Sidney's making waves all over. Last week he saved 3 bathing beauties. (And they all could swim better than Sidney!). Check out another version of this ad.

(from page 53 of the 1968 Collection) Check out this "during restoration" photo of a 1968 Rainbow of Colors Mustang in the light blue special order paint. The 1968 Rainbow of Colors promotion offered Mustangs in a rainbow of special ordered paint colors and options for the West Coast. We have been calling this color Beatnik Blue after an advertisement we found on the promotion at a local dealership. Mike has been restoring it. He had it shipped from California with much of its original paint, Ford special order WT8095. We have other examples of this paint on our site, but this one matches the original. The original was non-metallic. WT8... were blue colors; if the second digit was less than 8, it was non-metallic, etc. This beautiful car is our Attitude Of The Week starting April 23, 2022. See the car's original condition in the next photo.

(from page 53 of the 1968 Collection) Here is Mike's 1968 Rainbow of Colors promotional Mustang in its original special order blue paint and a bit of primer. The door data tag reads: Body 63A Mustang 2-door fastback body style, Color blank special order paint (verified to be WT8095 in this case), Date 16B build scheduled for February 16 1968, DSO 710784 Los Angeles ordering district with special order number 0784, Axle 2 2.79 conventional rear axle, and Trans W C-4 select shift automatic transmission. 71 0784 has been linked to at least 2 other similarly painted, special order Mustangs. Here is one of them.

(from page 53 of the 1968 Collection) Gold 1968 Mustang Shelby GT-500 fastback with white rocker stripes. It has the big 428ci engine - characteristic of the GT-500. Those are Shelby custom 15-inch wheels that came with the 1968 Shelby.

(from page 53 of the 1968 Collection) Gold 1968 Mustang Shelby GT-500 fastback, right rear view. It has Shelby letters across the rear spoiler.

(from page 53 of the 1968 Collection) Gold 1968 Mustang Shelby GT-500 fastback, left rear view. This is the sunny side!

(from page 53 of the 1968 Collection) The 1968 Shelby GT-500 came with either the 428ci V8 R-code 335hp or S-code 360hp Police Interceptor engine. This is the S-code V8 Police Interceptor!

(from page 53 of the 1968 Collection) The interior is black with wood accents.

(from page 54 of the 1968 Collection) Replica of the 1968 Highland Green fastback GT 390ci V8 from the Steve McQueen movie Bullitt famous for its car chase through the streets of San Francisco. This Ford promotional photo has Steve's son Chad driving, and is our Attitude Of The Week for the week starting March 4th, 2012.

(from page 54 of the 1968 Collection) Another cool shot of the Highland Green 1968 Bullitt Mustang replica with American Racing Torque Thrust wheels.

(from page 54 of the 1968 Collection) Check out this restored Powerful Purple 1968 Rainbow of Colors fastback Mustang. It is being worked on by Mainly Muscle Cars of Washington. This car was originally sold in the Bozeman, Montana area so it is one of those rare Idaho/Montana 1968 Rainbow of Colors promotional Mustangs. This is also the first good example of this purple paint on a 1968 Rainbow of Colors Mustang. We think it is Ford special order paint WT9083.

(from page 54 of the 1968 Collection) This special order Ford purple color is amazing. There is a Bozeman dealership badge on the rear as well. The Utah/Idaho/Montana area did advertise purple Rainbow of Color promotional Mustang where the California area advertised the other promotional colors. The Rainbow of Colors promotion offered upgraded Mustangs in what we found as 14 special order colors.

(from page 54 of the 1968 Collection) Mainly Muscle Cars of Granite Falls, Washington, sends us these updated photos showing the finished car. Amazing color in the sun! It is now at Geevers Classic Cars in The Netherlands.

(from page 54 of the 1968 Collection) The door data tag for this 1968 Rainbow of Colors promotional Mustang reads, 63A fastback body style with standard bucket seats, blank color code indicating a special order paint, 2U parchment bucket seats, 21C scheduled for build on March 21, 1968, 733060 DSO order in the Salt Lake City area with a special order number of 3060, 2 2.79:1 standard differential axle, and W C-4 automatic transmission. This car was ordered by a dealer in Bozeman Montana of which Salt Lake City was the closest order district. There was at least two of these special order, Powerfull Purple, Mustangs ordered under the 3060 special order code. The other is a hardtop with J-code 302ci V8 and code-5 - 3.00:1 standard differential.
