The 2003 Mustang introduced several new option packages and special models. Ford's Centennial was celebrated with a 100th Anniversary optioned coupe and convertible in black with black premium painted wheels, chrome rims, and a two tone parchment interior. The Mach 1 came back in 2003 a coupe with special wheels, stripes, a double overhead cam 4.6L V8, and hood scoop. The SVT Cobra also celebrated an anniversary, its 10th with an addition of a supercharger; a new front fascia, hood, flared rocker panels, rear fascia; and a new interior.

 GT Options Package

The GT was a performance and trim upgrade to the base Mustang. It was offered in both the coupe and convertible body styles. The engine was upgraded to a 4.6L SOHC V8. Hood scoops and a rear decklid are standard equipment on a GT. Fog lights are installed under the front bumper in the corners.

2003 saw the return of the Mach-1 special model Mustang. A quantity of 9,652 Mach-1 Mustang coupes were produced in 2003. It had a special 4.6L engine which used heads from the SVT and a DOHC cam from Ford's 5.4L Triton V8. This boosted horsepower from the stock 4.6L V8 in the GT from 260hp to 305hp and torque from 302ft-lb to 320ft-lb. The Mach-1 also had a distinct stripe and trim package. Azure Blue was exclusive exclusive exterior color for the 2003 Mach 1 although it also came in Oxford White, Zinc Yellow, Dark Shadow Gray, Black, and Torch Red.

 100th Anniversary

With the 100th year celebration, Ford created a set of Centennial Edition vehicles. They were all painted black with Premium Verona-grain Imola leather seating surfaces in two-tone parchment and 100th Anniversary deck lid and side badges. In addition, the owner received a commemorative key chain and watch, and a copy of the book, "The Ford Century." The Mustang Centennial coupe and convertible were optioned with 17-inch premium alloy wheels, anti-lock brakes and traction control, dual exhaust, power driver's seat with power lumbar support, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and Mach 460 AM/FM Stereo with six-disc CD changer. 717 coupes and 1323 convertible Centennial Mustangs rolled off Ford's assembly lines in 2003.

The 2003 SVT Cobra was offered in both the convertible and coupe body styles. Besides a host of trim modifications the engine consists of a hand-built 4.6L DOHC Supercharged V8. This engine is a monster with 390 horsepower and 390 foot-pounds of torque. The 2003 Cobra was code named the "Terminator" by the SVT group. It is said that this model Terminates any competition between the Cobra and the General Motor's Trans Am and Camaro models.

 SVT Cobra 10th Anniversary

2003 was the 10th year the SVT Cobra was offered. This event was commemorated with the release of the Limited Edition 2003 10th Anniversary SVT Cobra. The limited edition modifications over the normal Cobra included: carbon fiber patterned leather on the top of the steering wheel, carbon fiber leather on the shifter and hand brake, red window switch bezels, red seats inserts, red painted brake calipers all the way around, and big 17x9 inch 10th Anniversary wheels.

There were five Saleen models available in 2003. You could get the base level S-281, the supercharged S-281 S/C, the engine tweaked S-281 E, the S-281 supercharged Cobra conversion, and the anniversary SA-20 convertible. The S-281 S/C horsepower was increased 10 hp thanks to the addition of a new Lysholm screw-type supercharger. The S-281 E's horse power was increased another 20 hp by switching to a larger throttle body and a smaller supercharger pulley. The anniversary SA-20 models where all white convertibles. The 2003 Roush came in the appearance packed Stage 1, the appearance and handling Stage 2, and the complete and supercharged Stage 3. There was also a 380hp, 380R based on a supercharged Cobra Mustang.

In 2003 there were Steeda Mustangs produced at the Steeda Autosports facility. Steeda modifications included a Vortech V-2 supercharger, dual fuel pumps, and a large 800mm mass air flow sensor. For suspension they added Sport springs, adjustable rear swaybar, and an alloy strut tower brace. Match that up with a Cobra R cowl induction hood and a functional rear decklid spoiler and you were all ready for the track.
