The 2000 Mustang was mostly a carryover from 1999. Small changes included rear child seat anchor brackets, a glow in the dark interior trunk release, and a new gold exterior paint. The Ford Special Vehicle Team only produced 300 SVT Cobras in 2000 but they were designated as an "R" series which included performance and appearance upgrades as well as a special hand built and assembled engine. Even with fewer SVT Cobras built, 215,239 Mustangs were sold in 2000, this was the best year since 1986.

The 2000 Mustang GT comes with a 260 horsepower (at 5250rpm), 281 cubic inch (4.6 liter), single overhead cam V8 engine upgrade and rear spoiler. Options only for the GT included leather bucket seats; and 17 inch, five spoke alloy rims.

 SVT Cobra R
|
Only 300 SVT Cobra R Mustangs were built in 2000 and all came in Performance Red. It is generally accepted that there were no standard SVT Cobras built in 2000 although we have found a 2000 Ford sales brochure for a Mustang Cobra. The Cobra R has a huge 5.4L V8 engine that puts out 395 horsepower, Canton 8-quart oil pan, McCleod aluminum flywheel, a Tremec T-56 6-speed transmission, 4 inch aluminum drive shaft, 8.8 inch short shaft 31-spline fully independent rear suspension, Brembo 4-piston calipers with 13-inch rotors, Eibach 800lb/750lb springs, Bistien shock absorbers, Borla mufflers with side exit exhaust, and Recaro seats.

The 2000 Saleen Mustang came in two models: the 285hp S-281 and the 350hp supercharged S-281 S/C. Standard equipment were Racecraft springs, Bilstein N2 shocks and struts, urethane swaybar bushings, strut tower brace, 18x9 inch wheels up front, and 18x10 inch in the rear. Options included Alcon 13-inch brake rotors, twin gauge pod, sports bar and speedster package for the convertible, Recaro racing seats, 3.55 rear, and a carbon fiber hood.
