White 1976 Mustang Cobra II hatchback, left side view. There is a V8 emblem on the front fender, just ahead of the wheel opening. After posting a couple of these to the site, I'm starting to notice them on the road. I saw a similar one with orange stripes yesterday parked in front of a paint and body shop one town over.
White 1976 Mustang Cobra II hatchback, rear end view. The stripes go right over the spoiler, skip over the rear taillight panel, and pick up again on the lower side of the bumper.
You had your choice of three engine in 1976. Each could be had with the Cobra II option. This is the 5.0L 302ci V8. You could also get a 6-cylinder or a 4-cylinder engine.
This 1976 Cobra II has a blue interior and a floor-shifted manual transmission. That is a snake shifter knob. Check out a better view in the next shot.
Check out the cobra shift knob. I wonder if the eyes light up at night? This one has an 8-track tape player. They called them 8-tracks because there were 4 stereo track sets on a continuous loop of tape. The tape deck could sense when it reached the splice in the tape and would switch to the next pair of tracks. You could also manually switch to another track pair. It was real annoying when the tracks would switch mid song.
This data sticker is found on the rear edge of the driver's side door. It shows that the Cobra II was built in May 1976. It's color was 9D for white. The trim G is for the Picardy cloth and Corinthian vinyl seats while the B is the blue color. The trans 6 is for the 4-speed manual transmission. The Axle 6 is for the 3.00 rear. The ordering district is 55 for St. Louis.
Here is the body tag for this 1976 Mustang Cobra II hatchback. It has the last digits of the VIN 227090 The F is for the Dearborn, Michigan assembly plant. 69F is the hatchback body style. Not sure about the 020. The 9D is the white paint. Not sure about the rest. I see a V8 in there - I bet that is the engine.
The VIN tag is located on the dash and can be seen through the front window.
Black 1976 Mustang II Ghia (with Stallion option) owned by Mark Williford from Beaumont, Texas. It has its original 5.0L 302 V8 and an automatic transmission.
