This is a very brief history of the 1970 Mustang as seen by national and local Mustang articles, press releases, and advertisements. See the links provided for more newspaper articles, information, and examples of the Mustangs shown.
Summary:During the mid to late 1970 Mustang model year, three promotional Mustangs were heavily advertised. The Grabber Mustang national promotion, the Missouri/Kansas Twister Special Mach 1, and the Nebraska/Iowa area Mustang Sidewinder.
Some consider 1970 the last of the classic Mustangs, others extend the classic Mustang to 1973. In any case by 1970 the Mustang had become commonplace at the Ford dealership and the number of special promotions significantly decreased. Only a few special or limited edition Mustangs were built in 1970. This remained until 2005, when the release of the new bodystyle re-started the special and limited edition Mustangs all over again. Many of the special and limited edition Mustangs shown in these pages of the 1964 to 1970 newspaper history were brought back. This was the inspiration for SpecialMustang.com which document 108 general categories of Special Model Mustangs from the Mustang GT and Shelby through the Special Anniversary Editions, to the local "Territorial" Special Promotional Mustangs. There are also details and examples of 425 Special Mustangs identified by year.
Starting around April and continuing to the end of May, the 1970 special model Mustang Grabber was a special package to promote the Grabber paint colors which where introduced on the Mustang Shelby a year earlier. They were all fastbacks painted in either Grabber Green, Grabber Blue, Grabber Orange, Calypso Coral, or Bright Yellow. The were optioned with the "Grabber Special Value Package". The Grabber Package included; the special "C" stripe which is similar to the 1969 Boss side stripe but without the lettering, the F-code 302ci 2bbl engine, body colored side mirrors, blacked out rear taillight panel, and 14-inch wheels with dog dish plain hub caps.
Here is another version of the national Mustang Grabber advertisement. This one covered part of two pages in a newspaper. The text says, Now get sporty-car looks at economy-car prices! Just a few dollars more than Maverick's hold-the-line $1955* get you a new Grabber with extra-eager 200 "cube" Six . . . facing mirrors and stripes . . . black-accented hood and grille . . . much more! Or go Mustang Grabber, America's No. 1 sport, decked out with lively 302 V-9 . . . dual racing mirrors . . . stripes . . . black back panel . . . and on and on. Both Grabbers in a choice of five spectacular new colors. Come see!.

We've found advertisements of these Twister specials in the Missouri/Kansas area until the end of 1970, but we are still trying to find a better one featuring the Twister Mustang.
Here is a late 1970 advertisement for the Nebraska/Iowa area 1970 Mustang Sidewinder special featuring a 351ci 4V V8, automatic transmission, power steering, competition suspension, traction lock differential, and shaker hood scoop for a sales price of $3237.
