1997 Saleen offered four different versions of its performance car. The S-281 SOHC was based on the 4.6L Mustang GT engine, while the S-281 DOHC used the 5.8L Mustang Cobra engine with more power. The S-351 variant had a 5.8L V8 engine, and the Saleen SR model had a supercharged 5.8L engine that delivered 500hp. The S-351 model could also be customized with wider body panels, a hood made of carbon fiber, and a double spoiler on the rear decklid.
