Convertible

In 1990, the Mustang continued to offer three body styles (coupe, hatchback, and convertible) and two engines (2.3L 4-cycle, and 5.0L V8). The main options were LX or GT, with the LX having the option to upgrade to the 5.0L engine. This upgrade also added a 5.0 fender badge and dual exhaust. A special edition convertible with Deep Emerald Green paint, white interior, GT wheels, and the 5.0L V8 was introduced late in the model year. The 1990 Mustangs also featured a 25 anniversary tri-bar pony dash emblem, which was also present in most late 1989 models. Additionally, driver side air bags and rear seat shoulder belts became mandatory in 1990. This was the last year for the ASC McLaren convertible modification, which started in 1987.

Mustang GT
The 1990 Mustang GT came standard with 16 spoke sport wheels, color matched body-side moldings, solid front grille, and 225hp 5.0L high-output V8 engine. Performance upgrades included stainless steel exhaust and headers, 10.84 inch front brakes, progressive springs, 1.3 inch front anti-sway bar, 0.83 inch rear anti-sway bar, performance struts and shocks, and 15 x 7 inch wheels with performance P225/60VR-15 Goodyear tires.

Spring Feature 25th Anniversary 7-up Convertible
In 1990, 4103 of these Deep Emerald Green Mustang convertibles where made with white interiors, color match side molding (standard after 1992), 16-spoke wheels from the GT, the larger E-code V8 engine, and 25th anniversary commemorative badges. Sometimes called a Spring Feature Car because of its late 1990 model year introduction, or a 7-Up 25th Anniversary LX convertible Mustang because 30 of these were to be given away by the 7-UP Bottling Company as a promotional item. These cars actually started life at the Ford factory as coupes! They were converted to convertibles. The work was done by Car & Concepts in St. Louis, Missouri. The 7-Up contest never materialized.

25th Anniversary Mustang
All Mustangs (LX or GT in all body styles) manufactured from mid-April 1989 to late 1990 production became 25th Anniversary Mustang models with the addition of a a 25th Anniversary dash badge. This includes some 1989 and most 1990 Mustangs. The badge is a tri-bar pony with the words "25 Years" on the passenger side dash. Since not all 1989 and 1990 Mustangs received this dash badge, we are are listing it here in the special model section.

Saleen Mustang
The 1990 Saleen Mustang continued to be produced from Mustang LX coupes, hatchbacks, and convertibles. You could also get the higher performing SC (formally called SCC) hatchback as well. Suspension saw some upgrades over the previous year including; Racecraft suspension system and Monroe Formula GP shocks. The 3.55 rear continued to be an option but the customer could special request an automatic transmission or sunroof. See our 1990 Saleen Data Explorer for more information.

Saleen 7up Mustang
Only 12, 1990 Deep Emerald Green 7-Up Mustangs were converted to Saleens. These Saleen 7up Anniversary Mustangs actually started life at the ford factory as coupes even though their model code is still P44 for Mustang LX convertible.

ASC McLaren
1990 was the last year of the ASC McLaren modified Mustang convertible. ACS McLaren had been modifying Mustang coupes into two-seat convertibles since 1980 and introduced a large quantity of production models starting in 1987. Modifications included manual convertible tops, custom wheels, darkened tail lights, emblem-less front grille, custom leather seats and door trim, and custom dash and center console. 63 standard ACS McLaren convertibles were built, plus two 25th Silver Anniversary Editions (one shown here).
