Saleen Mustang
The 1996 Saleen Mustang came in four flavors. The S-281 SOHC built from the 4.6L Mustang GT provided most of the conversions. A higher output S-281 DOHC built from the 5.8L Mustang Cobra was available. An S-351 version with a large 5.8L V8. Black 1996 Mustang Saleen S-281 speedster convertible with a 4.6L (281ci) V8 engine. The speedster option gives the owner a tonneau cover over the rear seats. This gives the car a two-seater appearance.

1996, Bright Tangerine, , convertible
Tangerine 1996 Mustang Saleen Speedster owned by Ara Afarian from Rancho Cucamonga, California. It has a 4.6L V8 and an automatic transmission. Ara says that this is the only 1996 S-281 Tangerine automatic Speedster ever made by Saleen.

Factory Moonlight Blue 1996 Mustang Saleen S281 coupe ID number #144. Saleen took a GT and added Saleen urethane front fascia, side skirts, rear fascia, and rear wing. It was given a Racecraft suspension which includes Saleen; variable rate front and rear Springs, front struts and bushings, rear shocks, front sway bar and pivot bushings, five spoke wheels, a front and rear high performance wheel alignment, and a tuned chassis. To improve engine performance, Saleen added mufflers, a performance exhaust system, and gave it a performance calibration.
