They have large license plates in England. I wonder what the tape on the lights is for?

• The tape on the headlights are to pass the British road inspection or MOT- US specification headlights throws extra light to the right (to better illuminate the curb side of the road). In Britain cars drive on the opposite side of the road, and the light shines in the eyes of oncoming drivers. To solve the problem, tape is applied on the portion of the headlight shining light at the oncoming traffic.
