Look at the forest of palm trees in the background.
(from page 1 of the 1964 Collection) The interior is a bright red. Everything is red - dash, steering wheel, door panels, seats, console, and carpet. This one has an air conditioning unit. See the four vent system under the center of the dash?
(from page 1 of the 1964 Collection) Here is a close-up of the dash. Keys are here! Let's take it for a spin!

4.1 of 5 mustang attitude4.1 of 5 mustang attitude4.1 of 5 mustang attitude4.1 of 5 mustang attitude4.1 of 5 mustang attitude Has viewer comments (from page 1 of the 1964 Collection) This Wimbledon White was the first 1964 Mustang sold to the public. It was built on March 9, 1964 which was the first day of production. Pre-production models were built prior to March 9th. This Mustang was pre-ordered by a couple who received delivery at Powell Ford in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on March 16th. Which was one day before the official first day of sale for the new Mustang on March 17th. So, where is the second Mustang sold? Good luck finding it, as 22,000 Mustangs were sold on March 17th! This Mustang was delivered with the following options: Wimbledon White paint, 260ci 2V V8 engine, Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission, Rally Pac gauges, power brakes, power steering, power convertible top, padded visors, reverse lights, a heavy duty battery, full-length console, tinted windshield, a push-button AM radio with antenna, rocker panel moldings, Deluxe wheel covers with spinners, white wall tires, heater delete, seat belt delete, dual outside mirrors, compass, day/night mirror, and 2-speed electric wipers and washer.

(from page 1 of the 1964 Collection) The engine is the 260ci V8 engine. One up from the standard 6-cylinder engine.
(from page 1 of the 1964 Collection) The interior is blue. It has a Rally Pac instrument cluster option attached to the top of the steering column. Interesting that this car has the heater delete plate. It has the seat belt delete option. Not sure if this was for the front or back seats (or both). But in 1968, all US auto manufacturers were required to install lap and shoulder belts in front seats and lap belts in the rear seats. The seat belt delete option disappeared. It wasn't until 1984 all states required the use of seat belts! That cup holder thingy on the center console is aftermarket.

Roy Ratliff purchased it new on May 29, 1964 and still owns it today! It was our featured Attitude Of The Week photo for the week starting 2-15-09. Roy tells us more, "It came with a center console and Ralley-Pac. I rebuilt the motor in 2007 installing all new internals and had the carb rebuilt by Pony Carbs. In the beginning it was my hot rod, now it's my cherished ride. I will never be for sale as long as I live."
Has viewer comments (from page 1 of the 1964 Collection) Under the hood is this 289 4V V8 engine. It was originally rated at 220 horsepower in the owners manual as Roy points out below in his comments.
(from page 1 of the 1964 Collection) The air cleaner and valve covers are painted gold in color.
(from page 1 of the 1964 Collection) A shot of the right side of the engine. Check out the vintage FoMoCo washer bag on the inner fender. These 1964 engines had generators instead of alternators.
(from page 1 of the 1964 Collection) The interior is black in color. It has a center console and the Rally Pac instrument cluster attached to the top of the steering column.
(from page 1 of the 1964 Collection) The door data tag reads 65A hardtop body style, X Vintage Burgundy exterior paint color, 86 black vinyl trim, 15E assembled on the 15th of May 1964, 74 ordered in the Seattle area, 1 3.00:1 rear axle ratio, and 5 4 speed manual transmission. The VIN number shows that this is a true 1964 because the last 6 digits are below 250000 even though the year is indicated as 5 (1965).

(from page 1 of the 1964 Collection) Check out this 1964 Mustang magazine ad. It has a blue Mustang hardtop with a white vinyl top. It start off with, "Presenting the unexpected... new Ford Mustang!" You can tell this is an early one, because it asks us to check out it out at the World's Fair where it was first released to the public - "See the Mustang and ride Walt Disney's Magic Skyway at the Ford Motor Company Wonder Rotunda, New York World's Fair."
