The Mustang FR500S starts with a Mustang GT and the 4.6L V8 engine but has improved handling, improved aerodynamics, DOT approved racing tires, and engine upgrades to 325hp.

These cars are all build in Flat Rock, Michigan as a standard Mustang, but with Ford Racing options. For Ford, the 500S is the first race car built on its standard production line.
