(from page 1 of the 1968 Collection) Royal Maroon 1968 Mustang GT California Special hardtop owned by Don Potter from Ohio. This was our featured Attitude Of The Week for March 2nd, 2008. Don has this extra information to share, "The car was found on the internet and purchased February 2004 from an exotic car dealer in the Seattle, Washington area. The photos I received with car indicated that the body work and paint were done in September 1997 and is still in very good shape. The engine bay and engine along with interior and floor pans were in pretty sad shape. The mileage at time of purchase was 54,243. Once the engine and tranny was pulled, the undercarriage was inspected completely. We found several modifications that led me to believe car had been extensively drag raced at one time. The right rear shock housing was pushed up and split in three areas. The trans linkage, clutch bracket and shifter had been modified. Since my purchase, the following work has been completed: interior gutted and replaced, dash repainted correct color and all dash pieces replaced, factory console replaced with a humphugger console, factory shifter replaced with a Hurst shifter, electrical gauges replaced with mechanical gauges, 390 engine replaced with a 428 Cobra Jet engine, grille replaced with correct GT/CS grille and Marchal fog lights, front and rear bumpers replaced, engine bay detailed, rearend rebuilt with new axles and 325:1 Posi w/traction bars, GT pop-open gas cap added, standard LED sequential tail lights from Mustang Project, and the driver's side floor pan and passenger side floor pans replaced along with left front torque box."

Don added LED sequential tail lights from Mustang Project. The tail lights come on in three steps as the turn signals are activated. First the outside two, then the middle two, then the inside two. This is similar to the mid 60s Thunderbirds, except these use LEDs instead of incandescent bulbs.

(from page 1 of the 1968 Collection) Don added a this 428 Cobra Jet engine.

(from page 1 of the 1968 Collection) Another shot of the 428 Cobra Jet engine.

(from page 1 of the 1968 Collection) The 428 Cobra Jet includes; Speed Pro pistons, Crane Gold 1.76 roller rockers, Edelbrock aluminum highrise with 850 Street Demon carb, .30 overbore with Crane Custom Grind cam, Crane electronic ignition box, Blaster 2 coil, Mallory Unilite distributor, and heads ported polished with oversize valves. It has been balanced & blue printed.

(from page 1 of the 1968 Collection) Don's Royal Maroon 1968 GT California Special was the inspiration for the development of the 1968 GT/CS diecast produced by Greenlight Toys and was the original car used in their research for their 1/18th scale model.

(from page 1 of the 1968 Collection) Gulfstream Aqua 1968 Mustang GT/CS California Special hardtop owned by Arlie Moses and now Shane Mills. This was our featured Attitude Of The Week photo for 6-15-08. Options include the C-code 289ci V8 engine, C4 transmission, 3.00 open rear, air conditioning, power steering, and power disc brakes.

(from page 1 of the 1968 Collection) Gulfstream Aqua 1968 Mustang GT/CS California Special hardtop, left rear view. For identification, the side air scoops have the letters GT/CS and there is a chrome California Special emblem over the side rear marker light.

(from page 1 of the 1968 Collection) Okay what's different in this picture? Two things are different. The paint is lighter and its wearing a set of 10-spoke Shelby wheels. Arlie Photo-Shopped (tinted) the photo to more correctly match the shade of Gulfstream Aqua that's on the car. This is a difficult paint to photograph. Arlie also edited in the wheels to see what they looked like. That's much easier than physically trying them on! The only give-away on the editing is that both wheels have the exact same lighting. Arlie has since changed to the 10-spoke Shelby wheels for real.

(from page 2 of the 1968 Collection) Here is that C-code 289ci V8 engine. This is the smallest of the V8 engines offered in the 1968 Mustang with 195 horsepower.

(from page 2 of the 1968 Collection) Arlie comments, "I converted to a deluxe interior with both consoles but since it's a driver the original lower console is in storage (no cup holders!)"

(from page 7 of the 1968 Collection) This beautiful Presidential Blue 1968 Mustang GT/CS with a 289ci V8 was our Attitude Of The Week for April 5th, 2009. Arlie says that this was a 2008 Christmas present to myself. Only 155 California Specials built with 289 & 4-speed. Still has the original 8-track player and smog equipment. Arlie also has a Gulfstream Aqua 1968 GT/CS which was our Attitude Of The Week for 6-15-08 and December of our 2009 calendar.

The CS stands for California Special which included a Shelby style decklid with a spoiler, sequential taillights, and a blacked-out grille with out Mustang identification.
