Robert picked it up about a month ago and has it driving now. He plans a restoration this winter. This GT has a modified hood, grille, side rockers, and a Saleen spoiler. Compare to a stock 1988 GT.

Between 1987 and 1990 ASC McLaren took Mustang coupes and converted them into two-seat convertibles with a Mercedes SL look. They were created by Peter Muscat and Ford, built by American Sunroof Company (ASC) with performance suspension and wheel parts from McLaren. Notice the VIN number indicates the P40 Ford coupe body style.

Because we had just combined four children we could not afford it. In 2005 I started looking for this particular optioned car. After five years looking nation wide I FOUND ONE 15 miles from home. The car needed very little restoration and was given to Linda for Christmas 2010. Restoration was completed in 2011."

Jim says, "It has been in the family since new. Originally was my cousin's car which he sold to me as his family grew."

It has a 302ci V8 and a manual transmission. Mark had this to share, "This is the only Regatta Medium Blue Metallic Blue Saleen Mustang convertible made. The number is 706 and is in the Saleen Registry. We special ordered the Mustang in June 88 through Damerow Ford in Beaverton Oregon and I picked her up at Saleen Autosports in Anaheim Hills that September 88. We were told it was the last car off the Saleen line at the time and were pretty upset when we found out otherwise, but that is another story."

Karl says, "I purchased it 4 years ago from the original owner after a long search. It has 30,000 miles on it. It was a rust free clean car. It needed interior and a new top. I have stripped all moldings and repainted the car to the factory color - clear coat and wet sand. Only reason for new paint was tiny scratches and dents in the original finish. It has an 81 GT hood scoop and a featured convertible deck lid spoiler wing."

Somehow we missed this color in our list of available colors for the 1988 Mustang, although we do see it in the sales brochure for 1988. It is a nice color and probably an upgraded interior.
