It's also a Sunlit Gold Hertz car. The owner is Randy Cantrell from North Carolina. Randy tells us more, "This car has been in my family since 1970. It was my brother's car. He was killed in 1972. His wife had a hard time driving a straight drive. I had just turned 16 and gotten my 1st car - a 1965 2+2 fastback 289 auto. My brother's wife asked me if I would trade my car for the Shelby. I didn't hesitate and I've had it ever since. I had no ideal it was the 1st 68 GT-350 convertible made until Peter Disher from www.thecoralsnake.com did the an article on the car. Needless to say it's a special car to me." Peter Disher discovered that Shelby's first four conversions on 1968 Mustangs where Hertz show cars - a GT350 convertible, GT350 fastback, GT500 convertible, and a GT500 fastback. Each was painted Sunlit Gold. And THIS is the GT350 Hertz convertible.

You can only get gold over the top stripes in the Hertz version of the Shelby GT. In 1966, 1001 GT350-H, black and gold fastbacks, Shelby Mustangs where built for the Hertz rental car company; then in 2006 the only Shelby Mustangs built were 500, GT-H coupes in black and gold; and finally in 2007, 500 GT-H convertibles were built. All of these cars were rent-able at Hertz for a short period of time before being auctioned off at huge prices.

Many Shelby Mustang convertibles come only with the side stripes and not the over the top stripes. Its nice to see them on the Hertz convertible.

(from page 25 of the 2007 Collection) The 2007 Mustang Shelby GT-H just like the 2007 Shelby GT came with a billet grille and offset tri-bar pony emblem. Compare this with the 2007 Shelby GT-500 front grille.
(from page 25 of the 2007 Collection) Leather seats of the 2007 Shelby GT-H convertible. You can't quite see, but there is no Cobra emblem on the seat headrests.

(from page 25 of the 2007 Collection) This is interesting, a set of gold over the top stripes. Can you see what's missing? The stripes for the roof of a coupe, but in 2007 these were only available for the convertible. I hear these are a pain to put on, I had mine replaced by the dealer and one set ripped as it was being put on which required several weeks to order a replacement from Ford. There are many 3rd party companies that sell these in almost every color.
(from page 25 of the 2007 Collection) Here are close-ups of the original window sticker and a list of some of the Ford Racing upgrades standard on the GT-H.
