It has all the Shelby equipment (power disc brakes, power steering, competition handling package, shoulder harnesses, integrated roll bar, deluxe interior, unique console and gages, and tilt / tilt away steering column) plus selected options of an automatic transmission, air conditioning and tinted glass. This car was sold at the Barrett-Jackson auto auction in 2008 Scottsdale Arizona for $92000.

Check out the paint - this is the first one we have on our site that wears it's original shade of Whipped Cream paint. It actually has light green tone to it. It also has it's original 302ci V8 and an automatic transmission. The owner tells us, "Came across this car in 2006. The second owner was selling it, having grown tired of it - saying it never has won or ever will win any prizes. I was able to met the daughter of the original owner and get some very important information on the car. Her mother bought the car off the showroom floor and loved it at first sight. The original owner kept the car in a carpeted, heated, and air conditioned garage while in California. When she moved to the mid-west she drove the car herself instead of having it hauled. When unable to drive anymore, she sold it to a neighbor, who sold it to us. The spare tire is one of the original tires that came with the car. I am happy to say the second owner was so very wrong about it not winning any prizes. It has won several times and considering it is up against cars that have been totally restored, I think is great."

WT9036) was used on both. Because all Rainbow of Color and Color of the Month promotional Mustangs were reported to have been built at the San Jose plant (R-code in the VIN), and this car was built at the Dearborn plant (F-code), we believe this car was dealer ordered for the late April
Easter Collection of Colors promotion which featured many of the pastel colors available on 1968 Mustangs. Besides the special order paint: this car has the deluxe full disc wheel covers; metal rocker panel trim; and the base level 115hp (at 400rpm), 200 cubic inch, 1 barrel, inline 6 cylinder engine. This is a Sprint 200 A (6 cylinder sports options package) special order car which included the deluxe wheel covers, rocker panel trim, and louvered hood sport options at a reduced cost.

It says that the High Country Special has special equipment exclusive in the Rocky Mountain west which includes racing hood latches, spoiler rear end, side air scoops, special racing stripe, and "High Country" special '68 emblem. We found this ad in the July 18th, 1968, edition of the Colorado Springs Gazette Telegraph newspaper in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
(5 photos of a 1968 Corporate Yellow Mustang Shelby GT-500KR Convertible) This 1968 Shelby GT500KR (King of the Road) Mustang convertible has its original Yellow special order paint restored. This yellow was called Corporate Yellow when special ordered on the 1968 Mustang and later became Bright Yellow or Grabber Yellow in 1969 and 1970 as a standard Shelby Mustang color. This GT500-KR has its original interior and 54,000 miles. The car was repainted once in 1987. In 2002, the drive train, engine compartment, underbody and suspension were restored and detailed to SAAC Street Driven Concours class standards.

"I found the Mustang in a small town called Woodacre while I was storm patrolling the area. Looking at the Mustang and not knowing what was the condition or what was the story of it, I asked the neighbor. The neighbor told me that people have been stopping for the Mustang and never was sold to anybody. Luckily that day I stopped by and the son's mother told me that her son was getting married and he was probably be interested in selling it. I called him up. I am the third owner. It was in very good condition. All matching numbers all original inside and outside."

Both these special promotional cars were built in the San Jose plant (VIN 8R...) where this car was built in Metuchen, New Jersey (VIN 8T...); therefore, technically this car may be neither but it was ordered with the same paint as the January
Color of the Month Black Hills Gold. During the restoration of this car, the wheels have been changed to later Magnum 500 wheels.

"I found it on Craigslist June 2011 as a fixer. All of the power train and suspension had been done but everything else needed repair or replacement. I did it all myself except for the paint."

This amazing car is our Attitude of the Week starting November 23, 2018. Chris says, "This Rainbow of Colors Dandelion Yellow promotion car has been in the family since brand new. My uncle owned the dealership where it was ordered for his sister in law. It has many desirable options including the original J Code 302, full Sprint B package, console, tinted glass, cruise-o-matic and others shown in the Marti report. The exterior was restored to original, and the motor has had many upgrades including Edelbrock intake and carb, Mallory distributor, MSD 6 ignition box and coil, comp cams magnum cam and roller tip rockers, hooker comp headers, flowmasters, and 2.5" pipes with dual tips."

0778. In 1968, the San Jose plant also built special order cars with this same pink paint (
WT9036) for the 1968
Rainbow of Colors West Coast promotion. The
Rainbow of Colors cars were mainly ordered in the Los Angeles area, so this may be one of those cars instead.

Attitude Of The Week for the week starting June 22, 2020. Jason reached out to us to confirm. He asked,
"I think I have a rainbow of colours car. The car is in excellent condition and still retains its original body metal. It has spent years inside and never left exposed to the elements. From what I can see the car appears as if it was repainted once but I can not find anything anywhere that shows it to be painted any other colour. I sent a small paint chip in when requested by Kevin Marti so they could determine the paint code. They said it was beatnic blue..." Jason showed us a copy of the Marti Report with the WT8095 paint code match and the DSO of 710784. According to our research, this DSO matches a Beatnik Blue sibling that was delivered to Bill Ellis Ford in Rialto, California. Jason's was delivered to California Motors in Glendale, California. The dealerships are 55 miles apart.

"It was owned by my friends father. It was buried in a garage for years. His father had passed away so I have no
story on the car. Kinda upsetting, but I had noticed the car had no
paint code and I started researching and found your site and one other
that showed 1187 as my DSO code which states it was a special order
orange." The car came with a 289 V8. It now has a 351w V8 engine.
