(1 photo of a 1968 Madagascar Orange Mustang Rainbow Of Colors Hardtop) Karen Rose in Raleigh, North Carolina owns a very rare Madagascar Orange 1968 Mustang. This car was originally ordered by her grandma Frannie in California, who picked out one of the special factory colors advertised in the "Rainbow of Colors" Ford promotion between 1968 and 1969. Karen writes, I still drive this car regularly, but it could use some restoration, most pressingly a new hard top. I've been scouting around for a good body shop in the Raleigh NC area if you know of one. Thank! And you don't even want to see photos of my engine, it's not a pretty sight, but at only 160k, garaged most of her life in California, I'm still able to keep her going replacing part for part as they wear out. She's a good gal at 40. A larger wallpaper view of this car is also available.

(5 photos of a 1968 Black Mustang Hardtop) Jim Foster shares photos of his black 1968 Mustang. It has it's original 289ci V8 and an automatic transmission. Jim tells us, "This is my first car, 'DABEEST'. I have owned it since August 1976. It was my daily driver for the first 30 years. During the time I have had the car, I have put over 500,000 miles on the original engine and it has not been rebuilt. On May 26, 2006 it was totaled in an accident. I took the money I got from the insurance company, cashed out a 401K, and restored my car. Two of the following pictures are of the accident. Since the restoration, I have entered it into numerous car shows/events and have won numerous trophies/awards and several honorable mentions. It was also used in the music video 'The One that Got Away, by Katy Perry. 'DABEEST' can be found on the web."

(8 photos of a 1968 Dandelion Yellow Mustang GT Rainbow Of Colors Fastback) Reiny van Uden of the Netherlands just sent us this updated photo of his new Special Order Yellow 1968 Rainbow of Colors promotional Mustang GT. The GT stripe and wheels were put back to their original style. The 1968 Rainbow of Colors promotion offered new Mustang owners a choice of one of 13 or more colors of the rainbow with wild names. Some of the wild yellow paint names were Dandelion Yellow, Yummy Yellow, and Razzle-Dazzle Yellow. Most of the cars we have seen were baselevel Mustang hardtops, so this is a special car. Color matching the original paint shows this car was restored to its original bright Dandelion Yellow (Ford special paint code WT6018) which was one of the 13 colors. Also view this video of this car and others of Reiny's.

(1 photo of a 1968 Samoan Coral Mustang Color Of The Month Hardtop) This amazing, special ordered, 1968, Sprint optioned, Mustang hardtop was purchased in 1968 and is still owned by Orville and Ann Werner of Colorado. It is also our Attitude Of The Week for the week starting June 17th, 2012. Orville tell us that he bought the 1968 Mustang off the showroom in Colorado which came with the Sprint package, 302ci V8 engine, and this amazing special paint. Since then Orville has seen other coral 1968 Mustangs in the area. "Samoan Coral" is the name of the paint as Orville recalls, and was part of the Color of the Month promotion in Colorado. The door data tag has a blank color code indicating that it the exterior color was a special order, the order district is 51 for Denver, the special order number is 3000, and the build date is 15D for April 15th. The car has been repainted but it is very close to the original color.

(5 photos of a 1968 Corporate Yellow Mustang Golden Nugget Special Hardtop) Corporate Yellow 1968 Mustang Gold Nugget Special hardtop with a 289 cubic inch, 4 barrel V8 engine. This was one of the 525 Gold Nugget Special cars ordered in the Seattle and Oregon areas. Most of the cars came in Sunlit Gold (color code Y) which some call Anniversary Gold (and think its a darker gold but we have no idea other than the ad from 1968 which says its Sunlit Gold), although all the standard and special 1968 colors were available. As part of the Gold Nugget Special package came a black vinyl roof, blacked out hood stripes (delete when restored) with louvers, and a golden dash plate with the owners name.

(1 photo of a 1968 Madagascar Orange Mustang Rainbow Of Colors Hardtop) We received this email of a second special orange/red Mustang with DSO 710777. This one is under restoration along with a possible other special order Mustang. The owner writes, I have recently bought a 1968 Mustang and discovered the original color was a unique orange. After searching the VIN I discovered your site. I have DSO 710777. If you look closely at the picture you can see the original color of Madagascar Orange where the drip rails where removed. Also the trunk have never been touched and is the original Madagascar Orange. I am excited to re-store her one day and preserve Mustang history. Yet another twist of fate! I also owned a 66 Mustang for over 10 years and finally began to sand her layers of paint. Well as I began to remove door panels, and look in places I found a Bubble Gum color pink. Long story short, we believe this Mustang to have been originally painted Playmate pink which was only a special order in 66 and not officially offered. So I am honored to have 2 rare painted Mustang and hope to be able to save up to restore them to their original glory!

(4 photos of a 1968 White Mustang Hardtop) White 1968 Mustang hardtop owned by Lacy Austin from Kinston, North Carolina. Lacy tells us, "She was a weekend racer in Winston Salem, NC before the late owner became sick. He let me have the car for next to nothing. His best trophy was 'The Eliminator 2005 Super Street Class'. He said, 'Just have fun with it'. I named her Bad Co. and spent the last two years modding and making it street legal. Too many mods to list. If ever a car had 'ATTITUDE' this would be it."

Other standard options in the Gold Nugget special package was a 4 speed manual transmission, power steering, AM radio, center console, deluxe seat belts, black vinyl roof, performance tires, wheel covers, louvered hood, and front fascia integrated turn signals.

(5 photos of a 1968 Special Purple Mustang Hardtop) Erik from British Columbia is trying to find out more about this Special Order purple painted 1968 Mustang hardtop (and possibly also a Cougar) that was built early 1968 and ordered in BC, Canada (DSO B7, blank paint code). The paint appears to be Ford WT9083 special order purple paint which was used in the Rainbow of Colors - West Coast promotion but we have found no evidence of this promotion further north than the Salt Lake City area. The paint is over a metallic blue but the purple paint is painted everywhere as usually done by the factory when the trim is all off (we've seen other factory special painted Mustangs with a different color underneath). Erik, who owns this car, has a friend in BC who owns a Cougar with the same paint. Contact us or Erik if you know of others or have any ideas.
