(4 photos of a 1967 Wimbledon White Mustang Shelby GT-500 Super Snake Fastback) This is a one-off Wimbledon White 1967 Mustang Shelby GT-500 Super Snake prototype car. It was built by Shelby with the intentions of building more. But... it would be too expensive (2x that of the normal Shelby, and more than the 427 Cobra) for the public to purchase, so they only built one. This Shelby was placed on eBay back in 2008 for $3M, but did not sell. It did, however, sell in 2013 for $1.3M at a Mecum auction. (Photos are from Mecum). Why was it built? Many reasons. The GT500 was outselling the GT350 and Goodyear wanted a high speed event to advertise its new Thunderbolt tires. The engine was a 600hp 427ci from the GT40. The fog lights have special chrome surrounds and the blue LeMans stripes are unique.
(2 photos of a 1967 Candy Apple Red Mustang Shelby GT-500 Hardtop) This is a rare one. It's a 1967 Mustang Shelby GT-500 hardtop! It was the first and only one built by Shelby - called "Little Red". Although more 1967 hardtops where built by Shelby, it was the inspiration for the 1968 California Special. This GT-500 had twin Paxton Superchargers on a 428ci engine. It is reported to have been crushed as most prototypes were.
(1 photo of a 1967 Candy Apple Red Mustang Shelby GT-500 Convertible) Here is a super rare Mustang. Only one built! It's a Candyapple Red 1967 Shelby GT-500 convertible. It's owned by Samantha and Brian Styles from Delray Beach, Florida. This is our featured Attitude Of The Week for the week starting February 1, 2015. It has a 428ci V8 "Interceptor" engine and an automatic transmission. Shelby had intended to offer the GT350 and GT500 in all three body styles - six in all. Brian adds, "We just gained access to the Ford Special Orders (DSOs) and they confirm that Shelby American even went so far as to create "package" codes for each type of car. The convertible was package code "413C", meaning a GT500, Auto, AC, Smog, Convertible Body. Carroll claimed the convertible as his own personal car. About 4 months later, the car was needed for a new task. It was used to bolt on the A.O. Smith built '68 styled fiberglass designed by Ford. It was essentially disguised as a '68 for the purpose of taking photos -- a lot of photos. A couple Shelby employees referred to the car in the stage as a "68 styling proto," though there was actually nothing prototype about it. It was painted in 1995. The color was changed from Acapulco Blue to Candy Apple Red. This Shelby has the KR 428 Cobra Jet 4V engine with an automatic transmission.

This Shelby has a 250 hp, 302 cubic inch, V8 engine; and was the Attitude Of The Week for 9-30-2007. In preparation for 1968 production, Shelby moved its manufacturing site from Southern California to Michigan due to the need of high quality fiberglass which was being used for more of the Shelby components. This car has the 15 x 7 inch 10-spoke aluminum wheels option.

This car has the special order Ford Yellow paint. On the Shelby specification sheet this color was printed at the bottom as "Shelby Unit Spec Paint
WT6066" and the door data plate color was left blank. Mid 1968, Shelby introduced the GT-500KR or "King of the Road" which used Ford's new unofficially rated 400hp, 428 cubic inch Cobra Jet engine along with other handling/safety modifications to contain the power.

(3 photos of a 1968 Sunlit Gold Mustang Shelby GT-350 Hertz Convertible) This is the first Shelby GT-350 built in 1968. It's also a Sunlit Gold Hertz car. The owner is Randy Cantrell from North Carolina. Randy tells us more,
"This car has been in my family since 1970. It was my brother's car. He was killed in 1972. His wife had a hard time driving a straight drive. I had just turned 16 and gotten my 1st car - a 1965 2+2 fastback 289 auto. My brother's wife asked me if I would trade my car for the Shelby. I didn't hesitate and I've had it ever since. I had no ideal it was the 1st 68 GT-350 convertible made until Peter Disher from www.thecoralsnake.com did the an article on the car. Needless to say it's a special car to me." Peter Disher discovered that Shelby's first four conversions on 1968 Mustangs where Hertz show cars - a GT350 convertible, GT350 fastback, GT500 convertible, and a GT500 fastback. Each was painted Sunlit Gold. And THIS is the GT350 Hertz convertible.
