(from page 7 of the 1969 Collection) 1969 Indian Fire Red Mustang Mach 1 fastback, front view. 1969 was the only ear of the first generation Mustang that featured four headlights. This was inspired by the Mustang Shelby a year earlier where the front grille opening was larger, four headlights were installed, and the horse logo was mounted off center on a red, white, and blue framed vertical box.

Hood pins where introduced on the 1965 Mustang Shelby where the hood latch mechanism was deleted NASCAR-style pins were installed to lock it down. By 1968 the pins were more ornamental and for additional safety as the hood latch mechanism was retained. In 1969 the Mustang GT and Mustang Mach 1 came standard with these pins (which could be deleted).
