Hot Rod magazine called the Cobra Jet "the fastest running pure stock in the history of man." Only one engine was more powerful in 1969 and that was the 375hp (at 5200rpm), 429 cubic inch V8 engine for the Boss option. 1969 was the first and only early year the Mustang came with four headlights.

(from page 2 of the 1969 Collection) Peter Manson's restored Poppy Green, 1969, Russ Davis Special / Rainbow of Colors, Super Cobra Jet, Mach 1 fastback was our Attitude of the Week for March 8th, 2008. This amazing Mach 1 was one of 10 ordered by Russ Davis Ford of Covina California to promote his dealership and most likely his racing cars. We actually have its sister on our site. Peter has done extensive research as well as restoration on his car. The Rainbow of Colors was a west coast primarily 1968 sales promotion which offered new Mustang owners many sporty upgrades as well as one of 13 or 14 special order bright colors. Many of these cars were base models. New information on Russ Davis shows that this special order may have been for a racing promotion since the several race car drivers were salesmen including Gas Ronda with his famous brightly colored Cobra Jet racer.

(from page 3 of the 1969 Collection) Here is an earlier look at Peter's Poppy Green Mach 1 fastback. The door data tag for this car reads: 63C fastback sportsroof body style with deluxe interior, blank followed by 5 special paint with blacked out hood, 3AA black clarion knit and vinyl Mach 1 hi-back bucket seats, 10F assembled on the 19th of June, 1969, 71 ordered in the Los Angeles area, 3313 under special order (this number specifically to Russ Davis consisting of 10 Mustangs), S 3.50:1 rear axle ratio, and U automatic transmission.

(from page 3 of the 1969 Collection) Here is a look during some if the car's initial breakdown. Just a little paint and its done... NOT! Peter has been doing it the right way.

(from page 3 of the 1969 Collection) This 1969 Mach 1 Mustang fastback was driven by drag racer, Jim McCormick. He set many NHRA records for the Fastest Factory Street Stock with this car. It ran 10 second quarter miles. The car still has the original engine and running gear used to set those records.

(from page 3 of the 1969 Collection) It has Magna Flow chrome mufflers with 3inch stainless exhaust pipes. It wears a set of Drag Lites rims with 29x45x15 Mickey Thompsons in the front and 9.00x30x15 Firehawk wrinkle walls in the rear.

(from page 4 of the 1969 Collection) 1969 Mach-1 mustang fastback painted Gulfstream Aqua. This Mach-1 has the 390ci V8 engine, 4-speed manual transmission, and a 3.25 rear. These car have some of the largest chin spoilers. You could plow snow with them.

(from page 4 of the 1969 Collection) Gulfstream Aqua 1969 Mach-1 Mustang fastback, right rear view. It wears a set of vintage Cragar wheels and cool side-pipes. Anyone ever driven a car with side-pipes? They'll burn your shins when you get out if you aren't careful. Not a big fan with the ladies.
