The blacked out hood scoop looks good with the black grille and wrap-around vinyl trim. I don't think the chrome wheel opening trim is stock, but it looks great.

A Polar White Ghia optioned Mustang Hatchback is shown on this page of the 1980 Ford Mustang promotional booklet saying, In the tradition of elegant, sporty cars. Ghia is the elegant member of the Mustang herd. Youthful and carefree, with many luxury refinements. Ghia is indeed distinctive, as our display models reveal. Full wraparound bodyside moldings with dual color-coordinated accent stripe inserts. Dual remote control styled mirrors. Bright rocker panel moldings. Dual accent pin stripes. Color-keyed window frames and rear pillar louvers. 14 inch turbine wheel covers. Plus a Ghia insignia on decklid or liftgate. (the Ghia is offered on both hatchback and coup body styles) No less luxurious is Ghia's interior. Low-back bucket seats with European-style headrests and inertia seat back releases, luxury door trim with soft insert appliques, medallion, carpeted lower panels and map pockets... Plus deluxe belts with tension eliminators, deep cut-pile carpeting. RH visor vanity mirror and roof-mounted assist handle. Also, carpeted luggage compartment (2-door). Deluxe Sound Package, and the Light Group... With all this luxury, Ghia packs the performance of the economical 2.3 liter engine/4-speed manual transmission powertrain, one of Mustang's many Better Ideas for the 80's.

Have you ever heard of one of these? The original window sticker called it a 1981 Ford Mustang Ghia Suncoupe. It is owned by Jason Bourdeau from Langley, BC, Canada. The sticker price was $11K. I believe the 'Suncoupe' if for the sunroof and the vinyl top was an aftermarket item. It has a 3.3L 6-cylinder engine and an automatic transmission.

Page 8 and 9 shows the 1981 Mustang Ghia rag top and regular top coupe. Mustang Ghia. Refreshing like a sea breeze in full sails. Ghia will lift your spirits and carry you with distinctive pride and elegance. Ghia, in 2- or 3-door models, includes refined exterior touches like dual black remote control mirrors, bodyside pinstripes and turbine wheel covers. Inside there are Ghia's lowback reclining buckets with adjustable headrests, deluxe seat belts with tension eliminators, and luxury level cut-pile carpeting. Ghia also includes a dual beam map/dome light and lights for ashtray, glove box, engine compartment, and truck (2-door) or third door courtesy light switch (3-door). Plus a lot more (pages 12-13).

The 1981 Tu-tone option could be black or the following top/bottom combination: dark cordovan/bittersweet, medium pewter/light pewter, red/white, and midnight blue/medium blue glow. Best of all this Ghia optioned Mustang has the Carriage Roof option which gives the look of a classic convertible with the top up, but of course this one never goes down. No Mustang convertible was offered in 1981. This Carriage Roof was offered in white grained vinyl; or black, blue or brown cloth.

This is a Medium Red 1981 Mustang Ghia optioned hatchback which is part of the 1981 Ford Mustang promotional catalog. Although every year (1974-1981) the Ghia luxury sport option package was offered in a 2-door coupe; only the last three years, it was offered also in the hatchback body style. This one has turbine wheel covers, a sun roof, color matched rear quarter window louver trim, and a Ghia insignia on the left rear tailgate.

Azul (blue) 1983 Mustang Ghia Mexico notchback owned by Fabio Agredo from Maracay, Venezuela. Those are "deluxe full wheel covers" which where standard on the L, GL, and GLX. This car is a mix between a US Mustang and a Capri. I haven't seen this notchback body style before. I've only seen the hatchback which has the Capri front end. It has a V6 emblem on the front fender. Fabio tells us, "Desde chamo o para ese año siempre desee tener uno me moria por tenerlo pero era muy chico. Siempre quedo en mi mente ahora pasados los 38 años logre mi sueño un Ghia original con tan solo 35.000 millas, totalmente guardado para mi y la compra fue para celebrar en grande pleno mes de mi cumpleaños, mi mejor regalo. Eso fue una mañana q fui avisitar un cliente y sin querer en el estacionamiento
lo vi lleno de polvo logre hablar con su dueña insisti y en ocho meses decidio vendermelo. Lo q queria era q me entregara las llaves y listo pero no fue facil dure casi tres horas hasta q logre sacarlo de su garaje. Ahora lo conservo por eso 'yo y mi mustang mi mustang y yo'" I had help from a Spanish speaking co-worker to translate: "When I was a kid I wish I had one. It has been always in my mind. Now, that I am 38 years old my dream came through, an original Ghia with just 35,000 miles. Just for me. I got it as a birthday present, the best one ever. One morning I went to visit a client and in the parking lot I saw it all dusty. I talked to the owner (a lady) and after 8 months of negotiations I convinced her to sell it to me. I just wanted her to hand over the keys to me. It was not easy to get it out of her garage. It took me 3 hrs to start it. For that reason I keep it. Me and my Mustang, my Mustang and me."
