The is one of the earlier advertisement we've found for the Dixie Special Mustang which was placed by Swartzfager Ford in the February 29th, 1968 edition of the Laurel Leader-Call in Laurel Mississippi. We think this is a Ford designed ad for the Dixie Special since we also found the exact ad used by several dealers in the area including Reliable Ford of Ruston, Louisiana. This ad mentions the Dixie Special emblem and the special paint.

We've found several 1968 Dixie Special Mustang advertisements from Bubba Oustalet Ford of Jennings, Louisiana which is still there at the same location. This Dixie Special Mustang is a hardtop with vinyl roof, bucket seats, magic-air heater & defroster, seat belts, shoulder harness belts, back-up lights, nylon carpets, Dixie Special Emblem, windshield washers, and all vinyl upholstery for $2,320. This ad was in the February 27th edition of the Jennings Daily News of Jennings, Louisiana.

Here are parts from two newspaper ads placed by Bubba Oustalet Ford of Jennings, Louisiana for the 1968 Dixie Special Mustang. What's interesting here is that one of the colors is specified as a light yellow special paint. We think there were several special colors used on the Dixie Mustang but we think all had the Dixie Special emblem. The first ad was placed on March 12th while the second on March 4th. The rest of the advertisement says nothing about the Dixie Special Mustang. The stock number in both of these ads may be wrong because a 1968 Torino in the full ad states the same Stock Number as this car.

Here is a close-up of what we believe is the Dixie Special emblem placed on each special model. We are unsure where they were placed but possibly on the dash or fender or rear roof column.

This is a Madagascar Orange 1968 Rainbow of Colors promotional Mustang with a J-code, 230hp, 302 cubic inch, 4-barrel V8. This car was a special order car from the San Jose, California area. Besides the special order paint it came with automatic transmission, white sidewall tires, center console, power disk brakes, power steering, AM radio, tinted glass, deluxe seat belts, remote left hand mirror, and deluxe wheel covers which included the center red cap to the standard full wheel covers. The vinyl roof may have been a dealer added option. The was an east coast promotion which featured special order paint in a rainbow of colors. I got to see this car in person. Its been repainted but its in very good condition. We also have a
to this car since it shares the same special order number.
