(from page 8 of the 1965 Collection) Check out this Wimbledon White 1965 Shelby GT-350 competition. It's owned by a site visitor in Palos Heights, Illinois. This was our featured Attitude Of the Week for the week starting November 14, 2010. The owner says that it is very correct with one exception - aluminum Z304 racing heads. He drives it everywhere! This photo is also our 12,000th Mustang photo posted to the site.

(from page 8 of the 1965 Collection) Another shot of this Shelby GT-350 competition.

(from page 8 of the 1965 Collection) Wimbledon White 1965 Shelby GT-350 competition, left rear view. It has a trunk retainer pin, instead of a latch. No rear bumper. Rear window is clipped in. Exhaust exit out the sides in front of the rear wheels.

(from page 8 of the 1965 Collection) The standard fuel filler cap and tube is replaced with this simple funnel.

(from page 8 of the 1965 Collection) Here is a shot during the build of the car.

(from page 15 of the 1965 Collection) This is a real 1965 Mustang Shelby GT-350 fastback. The Guardsman Blue rocker stripes are standard on the 1965 Shelby. The LeMans style stripes over the top of the car were optional and was applied by the dealer Sexton Ford Sales Inc. in Moline, Illinois. The hood on a 1965 Shelby is fiberglass.

(from page 15 of the 1965 Collection) All 1965 Shelbys were fastbacks and all where painted Wimbledon White.

(from page 15 of the 1965 Collection) Wimbledon White 1965 Mustang Shelby GT-350 fastback, right rear view.

(from page 15 of the 1965 Collection) The engine is a tweaked Mustang K-code 289ci 4-barrel V8. This Shelby version put out 306 horsepower over the 271 horsepower Mustang version. Shelby engine modifications included: 715 cfm Holley carburetor, Cobra aluminum high-rise intake manifold, Cobra finned aluminum valve covers with matching oil pan, Tri-Y exhaust headers, and low-restriction mufflers. The Shelby special Vehicle Identification Number VIN is located on a aluminum plate riveted over the original Mustang VIN number. See it over the driver's side fender?

(from page 16 of the 1965 Collection) The interior on this 1965 Shelby is black

(from page 16 of the 1965 Collection) There is no rear seat on the 1965 Shelby.

(from page 16 of the 1965 Collection) The battery on the 1965 Shelby is in the trunk for better weight distribution.

(from page 16 of the 1965 Collection) I bet there aren't many of these around. It's the original Owner's Manual for this 1956 Mustang Shelby GT 350.

(from page 32 of the 1965 Collection) This is a black and white vintage Ford photo of the first 1965 Mustang Shelby GT-350 fastback. It has the Cragar wheels. You can see that there is no rear seat.

(from page 32 of the 1965 Collection) Another vintage black and white photo of the first Wimbledon White 1965 Mustang Shelby GT350. This one is taken with a model sitting in it for an advertisement. This photo was taken at the Shelby American Los Angeles Airport facility.

(from page 32 of the 1965 Collection) Same setup as the last photo, but showing more of the front end of the Shelby GT350. Looks like the exhaust pipes exit just past the rear axle under the car. I wonder if this one has mufflers?

(from page 32 of the 1965 Collection) This is a cool overhead shot of the first 1965 Mustang Shelby GT350 built.

(from page 32 of the 1965 Collection) Another overhead shot of the first 1965 Mustang Shelby GT-350. Nice! I wonder if this car is still around today?

(from page 32 of the 1965 Collection) This is a rare one. It's a real Wimbledon White 1965 Mustang Shelby GT-350. Two things make this shot rare. Only 521 of these were built in 1965. And it's being shown in the rain! I spotted this at the 2009 All Ford show at Uftring Ford in East Peoria, Illinois.

(from page 32 of the 1965 Collection) Check out the license plate. This is the real thing!
