(5 photos of a 1969 Candy Apple Red Mach 1 Mustang Fastback) Candy Apple Red 1969 Mach 1 Mustang fastback owned by Frank Hoover from Levittown, Pennsylvania. This was our featured Attitude Of The Week for the week starting January 23, 2011. It's an original R-code 428ci Cobra Jet car. Frank tells us more, "I bought this car in 2001. Originally I wanted a red 1968 428 fastback (which are hard to find). I was ready to buy one in Ohio from a dealer but by the time I got there the car was already sold. Two weeks later I found out about this Mach 1. I knew when I saw it on the showroom floor I wanted it. It was delivered two weeks later and I have been enjoying it ever since. This is an R-code 1969 Candy Apple Red 428CJ 4-speed shaker car. It has manual steering but it has power brakes which is needed - it is easy to spin this car sideways with the power it has. I have driven to car shows and even attended the Mustang Club of America shows and took Silver in the Concourse Class as well as Best Of Show in many local shows."

Well, as the story goes, my husband and I bought it. It needed a lot of work! My little Plain Jane 2+2 4-cylinder, 4-speed red Mustang turned into a hot powerful V-8 smoking Cobra. It gets a lot of attention wherever we go. People are always asking if my husband paints for a living, and I say 'No, just little red Mustangs that need resurrected!' We drive my little darling every chance we get. After 42 years, I have the car of my dreams"

It has a 302L V8 engine and a manual transmission. Josh tells us, "I bought the car about two years ago locally off craigslist. It was repainted, the original body kit wasn't installed, and in very poor condition. The original Flofit interior was destroyed. It had no heatercore. The valvecovers leaked like crazy right on the factory headers. The wheels were spray painted black. BUT it did have all the correct Saleen pieces to restore. The car was all stock save a set of mufflers and a Centerforce clutch. A year long build consisted of a full interior restoration (seats ,headliner, doorpanels, dash) Exterior wet sand and buff. Restoration of the original 16x7 and 16x8 ARE basketweave wheels (30hrs labor alone). The car is #399 of 708 made in 1988 and 1 of 5 made in the red/beige/gold combination. Michael had this story to share, "I have always been a Mustang lover. At the age of 7 my Dad took me to my first car show were I fell in love with a shiny red 1968 coupe. Once I started driving I knew some day I would be behind the wheel of a Mustang. When the s197 style was released I said to myself, 'That is my dream car.' However, I had just started a lease on a Toyota Camry so I had to wait it out. As my lease drew to an end, I found myself in the Ford dealership to pick up my 2007 shiny red coupe. Since owning my Mustang I have done some basic modifications to make it my own. Often people will ask what the name of my car is, and I laugh and say 'The American Dream'. Although not a traditional name, my Mustang means a lot to me. It reminds me that I live in a country were you can have your dreams come true. I hope that some kid reading this and drooling over the pictures of my car will some day feel the way I did when my dream cam true. I look forward to the many years to come cursing in my Mustang."
