(10 photos of a 1968 Sunlit Gold Mustang T-5 Convertible) This amazing 1968 Sunlit Gold T-5 Mustang comes to us from Mario Sikorski of Ingolstadt, Germany, and was our featured Attitude Of The Week for December 7th, 2008. Mario tells us that his T-5 has been restored, has all its matching factory numbers, and according to the Marti report this is a one of a kind. When these cars were exported to Germany, Ford could not register the "Mustang" name for sale. Ford replaced the "Mustang" emblems with "T-5" emblems. T-5 Mustangs exist from 1964 through 1979.

Attitude of the Week for April 26th, 2009. It was built in San Jose, ordered in Los Angeles, under a special order with special paint WT3822. Mal writes:
My Mustang was imported in to Australia from Los Angeles as a running car and I purchased it from an importer. I knew little about Mustangs and the hobby grew from there. The body and Paint have been refurbished and the color has been professionally matched to the original color in the trunk. Body was rust free fortunately. The Mustang was in very good original condition when purchased and I drove it home, I have done most of the mechanicals and put it all together my self, I also have the original owners manual and is a matching numbers car. But most of all, I love driving it. Spanish Gold shares the same paint code as Black Hills Gold used in January 1968 for the Color of the Month Mustang promotion. The Color of the Month promotion offered a special ordered color and sport options for each of the first 4 months of 1968. Black Hills Gold was offered in January for the New Years; Passionate Pink in February for Valentines day; Emerald Green in March for Saint Patrick's Day, and Eastertime Coral for April. (4 photos of a 1968 Sunlit Gold Mustang Golden Nugget Special Hardtop) Scott Rear of Pitt Meadows, BC, Canada sent us this photo of his Sunlit Gold 1968 Golden Nugget Special Mustang hardtop with its original 289ci 2V V8 engine. This original Golden Nugget Special was purchased from Perry Morrell Motors which used to be in Silverton Oregon. Scott says,
In the process of restoring her now. I am looking for images of the
dash plaque that came with the car so I can reproduce one. The vinyl roof
has been removed in the pictures. 525 of these cars were built and sold in the Seattle area and came with 289 cubic inch 2V V8 engine, C4 automatic transmission, louvered hood, black stripes, black vinyl top, black interior, and featured unique golden plaques on the dashboard with the original owner's name engraved. (3 photos of a 1968 Sunlit Gold Mustang Shelby GT-350 Hertz Convertible) This is the first Shelby GT-350 built in 1968. It's also a Sunlit Gold Hertz car. The owner is Randy Cantrell from North Carolina. Randy tells us more,
"This car has been in my family since 1970. It was my brother's car. He was killed in 1972. His wife had a hard time driving a straight drive. I had just turned 16 and gotten my 1st car - a 1965 2+2 fastback 289 auto. My brother's wife asked me if I would trade my car for the Shelby. I didn't hesitate and I've had it ever since. I had no ideal it was the 1st 68 GT-350 convertible made until Peter Disher from www.thecoralsnake.com did the an article on the car. Needless to say it's a special car to me." Peter Disher discovered that Shelby's first four conversions on 1968 Mustangs where Hertz show cars - a GT350 convertible, GT350 fastback, GT500 convertible, and a GT500 fastback. Each was painted Sunlit Gold. And THIS is the GT350 Hertz convertible.

Attitude Of The Week for December 1st, 2007. The California Special options group included a Shelby style decklid with a spoiler, unique taillights, and a blacked-out grille with out Mustang identification. In the CS option the GT was purposely missing from the normal GT wheelcovers. A similar option package was available in Colorado called the High Country Special.
(4 photos of a 1968 Lime Gold Green Mustang Hardtop) Lime Gold 1968 Mustang hardtop owned by Mark Sommers from Broadmeadows Vic, Australia. It has a C-code 302 4V V8 engine with tri-y headers feeding dual Flowmaster mufflers. It has an automatic transmission. Mark adds,
"It was imported into Australia January 2010. It was purchased by me September 2010. It's only travelled 3000 miles since full restoration - the last owner (in America) owned the car since 1987. It has GT pack on board but not a factory addition."
(1 photo of a 1968 Special Gold Paint Mustang Golden Mustang Limited Edition Hardtop) Russell Crull may have found an Iowa/Illinois specially gold painted 1968 territorial special edition Mustang called the
Golden Mustang Limited Edition. The special promotional Mustangs featured special gold paint, louvered hood, sport wheel covers, and a special Golden Mustang Limited Edition badge. Russell ordered a Marti report which confirmed that his car is a Golden Mustang and it was ordered by Bemis Motor in Oregon, IL and sold in April of 1968. Stay tuned for more information.

ad from 1968 says Sunlit Gold. Other standard options in the Gold Nugget special package was a 4 speed manual transmission, power steering, AM radio, center console, deluxe seat belts, black vinyl roof, performance tires, wheel covers, louvered hood, and front fascia integrated turn signals.

The Sprint option was was an economically priced upgrade which was aimed at reducing the risk of running out of the base engine by offering an engine upgrade and many of the GT options. This car has the 6-cylinder engine and is therefore known as the 1968 Sprint "A" Package. The door tag on this car reads 65CI6A05D712W:

"The 1968 Golden Nugget Special or Golden Nugget Limited Edition Mustang was an Oregon/Seattle promotion which took a 1968 hardtop and offered it in Sunlit Gold (color code Y, usually followed with a '5' to indicate the black hood, and special order number 1111 after the 74 DSO found on the door data tag) although any of the standard or special Mustang
colors could be ordered. Also with this package came the louvered hood with black painted inserts, black vinyl top, a black interior, and featured unique golden plaques on the dashboard with the original owner's name engraved. 481 Golden Nugget Limited Edition Mustangs were actually produced of the 525 scheduled to be offered through the promotion. "Imported from Texas in 2005 to New Zealand. Not restored but the usual maintenance and repairs. Colour really lives up to its name in the Sun."
(10 photos of a 1968 Black Hills Gold Mustang Special Dakota Days Convertible) This is a Black Hills Gold, South Dakota, local special edition Mustang convertible with special order gold paint, sport wheels, louvered hood, and 302ci V8 under the hood. We are calling it a "Special Dakota Days" Gold Mustang special model since one of the original newspaper advertisements referred to the cars in this way. Only twenty-five of these special models were ordered (5 hardtops and 20 convertibles).

It has it's original 289ci V8 engine and an automatic transmission. David purchased it in Woodinville, Washington. He is the 3rd owner. He's wondering if its could possibly be an Oregon/Washington "Golden Nugget Northwest" dealer special. It doesn't have the DSO of 1111 which is on the other Golden Nugget cars. It does have the same paint and trim codes as the Golden Nugget Special but it was built one month before the earliest batch we have found. It may have been the inspiration for the special?
