(4 photos of a 1968 Spanish Gold (Black Hills Gold) Mustang Rainbow Of Colors Hardtop) This amazing 1968 white vinyl top Mustang owned by Mal Hillier of Melbourne, Australia, has all the codes and special order color to be a Spanish Gold 1968 Rainbow of Colors West Coast promotional Mustang and was our Attitude of the Week for April 26th, 2009. It was built in San Jose, ordered in Los Angeles, under a special order with special paint WT3822. Mal writes: My Mustang was imported in to Australia from Los Angeles as a running car and I purchased it from an importer. I knew little about Mustangs and the hobby grew from there. The body and Paint have been refurbished and the color has been professionally matched to the original color in the trunk. Body was rust free fortunately. The Mustang was in very good original condition when purchased and I drove it home, I have done most of the mechanicals and put it all together my self, I also have the original owners manual and is a matching numbers car. But most of all, I love driving it. Spanish Gold shares the same paint code as Black Hills Gold used in January 1968 for the Color of the Month Mustang promotion. The Color of the Month promotion offered a special ordered color and sport options for each of the first 4 months of 1968. Black Hills Gold was offered in January for the New Years; Passionate Pink in February for Valentines day; Emerald Green in March for Saint Patrick's Day, and Eastertime Coral for April. (4 photos of a 1968 Sunlit Gold Mustang Golden Nugget Special Hardtop) Scott Rear of Pitt Meadows, BC, Canada sent us this photo of his Sunlit Gold 1968 Golden Nugget Special Mustang hardtop with its original 289ci 2V V8 engine. This original Golden Nugget Special was purchased from Perry Morrell Motors which used to be in Silverton Oregon. Scott says, In the process of restoring her now. I am looking for images of the dash plaque that came with the car so I can reproduce one. The vinyl roof has been removed in the pictures. 525 of these cars were built and sold in the Seattle area and came with 289 cubic inch 2V V8 engine, C4 automatic transmission, louvered hood, black stripes, black vinyl top, black interior, and featured unique golden plaques on the dashboard with the original owner's name engraved. Check out the ad I found in the January 26th, 1968, edition of the Seattle Times.

The Sprint option was was an economically priced upgrade which was aimed at reducing the risk of running out of the base engine by offering an engine upgrade and many of the GT options. This car has the 6-cylinder engine and is therefore known as the 1968 Sprint "A" Package. The door tag on this car reads 65CI6A05D712W: 65C 2-door hardtop, I Lime Gold metallic exterior paint, 6A black bucket seats, 05D assembled on the 5th of April, 71 ordered in the Los Angeles area, 2 2.79:1 rear axle ratio, and 2 automatic C4 transmission.

(4 photos of a 1968 Gold Mustang Shelby GT-350 Fastback) Gold 1968 Mustang Shelby GT-350 fastback that was originally ordered by Hertz Rent-a-car. It is one of 223 fastbacks ordered by Hertz in 1968. It has all the Shelby equipment (power disc brakes, power steering, competition handling package, shoulder harnesses, integrated roll bar, deluxe interior, unique console and gages, and tilt / tilt away steering column) plus selected options of an automatic transmission, air conditioning and tinted glass. This car was sold at the Barrett-Jackson auto auction in 2008 Scottsdale Arizona for $92000.

(12 photos of a 1968 Black Hills Gold Mustang Color Of The Month Hardtop) This 1968 Mustang hardtop was originally ordered by Galloways Garage, Inc of Newburgh, New York as a Sprint B with automatic transmission, special Black Hills Gold paint (Gold Metallic WT3822), and blacked out louvered hood. The Sprint B came with a V8 engine, argent style wheels, and GT fog lamps. Two 1968 Mustang promotions come to mind: the Anniversary gold with black striped louvered hood Seattle area Golden Nugget Special, and the Black Hills Gold January Color of the Month rumored to be in the Denver area only. Both these special promotional cars were built in the San Jose plant (VIN 8R...) where this car was built in Metuchen, New Jersey (VIN 8T...); therefore, technically this car may be neither but it was ordered with the same paint as the January Color of the Month Black Hills Gold. During the restoration of this car, the wheels have been changed to later Magnum 500 wheels.

(7 photos of a 1968 Sunlit Gold Mustang Golden Nugget Special Hardtop) I photographed this Sunlit Gold 1968 Golden Nugget Special at the 2011 Mustang Round-up car show in Bellevue, Washington. It was actually one of two Golden Nugget Specials at the show. 525 of these were built for a special promotion in the Seattle area. Included in the package was a golden plaque for the dash panel bearing the customer's name, Sunlit Gold paint, black vinyl top, black hood panels, black stripe, whitewalls, and sport wheel covers. Checkout the Seattle Times advertisement I found on this special promotion.

(6 photos of a 1968 Lime Gold Mustang GT California Special Hardtop) This Lime Gold 1968 Mustang GT California Special with black vinyl roof was at the 2010 Mustang Roundup car show held in Bellevue, Washington. All other standard 1968 GT options were not used including the GT gas cap which probably could be ordered separately.
