The sports option included wide wraparound body-side molding with dual argent (silver) stripe inserts, black window frames and rocker panel moldings, 13 inch sport wheels with trim rings, and a sports steering wheel. Other cars shown here is a Bright Caramel coupe with white vinyl carriage roof option, Bright Red coupe with sports option, and a Bright Yellow coup with exterior accent group consisting of pin stripes, black rocker panel moldings and rub strip extensions, bumper rub strip accent stripes, and whitewall tires.


(1 photo of a 1981 Blue Mustang Ghia Coupe) Have you ever heard of one of these? The original window sticker called it a 1981 Ford Mustang Ghia Suncoupe. It is owned by Jason Bourdeau from Langley, BC, Canada. The sticker price was $11K. I believe the 'Suncoupe' if for the sunroof and the vinyl top was an aftermarket item. It has a 3.3L 6-cylinder engine and an automatic transmission.


(10 photos of a 1981 Blue Mustang Cobra Optioned Hatchback) Blue 1981 Mustang Cobra hatchback owned by Andre Lepine from Louiseville, Quebec, Canada. Andre tells us, "I bought the Cobra in 2009. The Cobra's original color was white with a red interior. When I bought it, it was blue with the red interior. I completed a full restoration of the Cobra with my Dad. Now it's blue with a black interior. Original options: T-Top, power brakes, power steering, original 255 cid, auto transmission, and power windows. From the Marti report, I learned this Cobra stayed for a full year on the dealer Mont-Royal Ford's parking lot before it was sold (Feb. 1981 to Feb. 1982)."

Page 7 shows both a Medium Pewter and a Bright Yellow Mustang coupe with styled steel wheel with trim rings. The Medium Pewter Mustang has the two-door Sports Appearance package consisted of black window trim, sport wheel covers, rocker panel moldings, and a sport steering wheel. The GT package was not offered in 1981.

Large in the bottom center is a Dark Blue metallic 2-door GL coupe with turbine wheel covers, behind it is a Bright Red 3-door GL hatchback with turbine wheel covers, and the upper left is a Dark Curry Brown metallic 2-door L coupe with styled steel wheels and trim rings. The GL has a fully reclining low-back bucket seat (upper left) and the L series comes with the standard fully reclining high-back bucket seat (top center). The new names assigned to the four option packages included the baselevel L, intermediate GL, luxury GLX, and the sporty GT.

Three of these performance GT's where built by Ford to promote its racing products and design. Two were red, one dark blue. The body was patterned off the 1980 SVO M81 McLaren.

Those are "deluxe full wheel covers" which where standard on the L, GL, and GLX. This car is a mix between a US Mustang and a Capri. I haven't seen this notchback body style before. I've only seen the hatchback which has the Capri front end. It has a V6 emblem on the front fender. Fabio tells us, "Desde chamo o para ese año siempre desee tener uno me moria por tenerlo pero era muy chico. Siempre quedo en mi mente ahora pasados los 38 años logre mi sueño un Ghia original con tan solo 35.000 millas, totalmente guardado para mi y la compra fue para celebrar en grande pleno mes de mi cumpleaños, mi mejor regalo. Eso fue una mañana q fui avisitar un cliente y sin querer en el estacionamiento lo vi lleno de polvo logre hablar con su dueña insisti y en ocho meses decidio vendermelo. Lo q queria era q me entregara las llaves y listo pero no fue facil dure casi tres horas hasta q logre sacarlo de su garaje. Ahora lo conservo por eso 'yo y mi mustang mi mustang y yo'" I had help from a Spanish speaking co-worker to translate: "When I was a kid I wish I had one. It has been always in my mind. Now, that I am 38 years old my dream came through, an original Ghia with just 35,000 miles. Just for me. I got it as a birthday present, the best one ever. One morning I went to visit a client and in the parking lot I saw it all dusty. I talked to the owner (a lady) and after 8 months of negotiations I convinced her to sell it to me. I just wanted her to hand over the keys to me. It was not easy to get it out of her garage. It took me 3 hrs to start it. For that reason I keep it. Me and my Mustang, my Mustang and me."

Jason says that it was a California car with no rust and an excellent body. The Mustang needed a complete body/interior restoration. It was repainted to this light blue. Originally a dark navy blue. The V6 was replaced with a later V8 engine. It runs but needs a fuel pump. It has an automatic transmission.
