Its an Eastertime Coral 1968 April Color of the Month promotional Sprint Mustang hardtop owned by John of Michigan and was our featured Attitude Of The Week for July 13th, 2008. The Color of the Month was a promotion for the first four months of 1968 where special colors were connected to main holidays for special sales: Black Hills Gold paint for the New Year celebration in January, Passionate Pink for Valentine's day in February, Emerald Green for St. Patrick's day in March, and in this case Eastertime Coral for Easter in April. Imagine an Easter Collection of Colors sale showing Eastertime Coral Mustang next to a Seafoam Green, Meadowlark Yellow, and Diamond Blue 1968 standard factory color Mustangs; and a Passionate Pink Mustang left over from the Valentine's day, February color of the month. The Ford color number for Eastertime Coral was WT9012 (6779DH Dupont, 71617 Ditzler) and was also used for the Rainbow of Colors 1968-69 West coast promotion but called Caribbean Coral. Mike writes: I bought this original 'Rainbow of Colors' car on-line about two years ago. The gentleman who restored this car initially intended to part it out. He opted to restore its original Calypso Coral special order paint (known as
Flower Power Orange in '68). Mike's 1968 Mustang was our Attitude Of The Week for February 1st, 2009.

(4 photos of a 1968 Spanish Gold (Black Hills Gold) Mustang Rainbow Of Colors Hardtop) This amazing 1968 white vinyl top Mustang owned by Mal Hillier of Melbourne, Australia, has all the codes and special order color to be a Spanish Gold 1968 Rainbow of Colors West Coast promotional Mustang and was our Attitude of the Week for April 26th, 2009. It was built in San Jose, ordered in Los Angeles, under a special order with special paint WT3822. Mal writes: My Mustang was imported in to Australia from Los Angeles as a running car and I purchased it from an importer. I knew little about Mustangs and the hobby grew from there. The body and Paint have been refurbished and the color has been professionally matched to the original color in the trunk. Body was rust free fortunately. The Mustang was in very good original condition when purchased and I drove it home, I have done most of the mechanicals and put it all together my self, I also have the original owners manual and is a matching numbers car. But most of all, I love driving it. Spanish Gold shares the same paint code as Black Hills Gold used in January 1968 for the Color of the Month Mustang promotion. The Color of the Month promotion offered a special ordered color and sport options for each of the first 4 months of 1968. Black Hills Gold was offered in January for the New Years; Passionate Pink in February for Valentines day; Emerald Green in March for Saint Patrick's Day, and Eastertime Coral for April. (5 photos of a 1968 Royal Maroon Mustang Sprint Hardtop) This is a Royal Maroon 1968 Mustang Sprint with a 195 hp (at 4600 rpm), 289 cubic inch, 2 barrel, V8. The Sprint options packages started midway through the 1966 model year when Ford introduced the Millionth Mustang Sale featuring the limited-edition "Sprint" package which had a lot more chrome and a different engine due to engine availability problems in 1966. The Sprint option remained in later years with just the additional chrome and paint options which gave the car a GT look without the price. The 1968 Mustang Sprint option consisted of GT stripes, pop-open gas cap and the full wheel covers of six cylinder Mustangs. V-8s got in addition, the styled steel wheels with Wide Oval Tires and the GT fog lamps.
(4 photos of a 1968 Sunlit Gold Mustang Golden Nugget Special Hardtop) Scott Rear of Pitt Meadows, BC, Canada sent us this photo of his Sunlit Gold 1968 Golden Nugget Special Mustang hardtop with its original 289ci 2V V8 engine. This original Golden Nugget Special was purchased from Perry Morrell Motors which used to be in Silverton Oregon. Scott says, In the process of restoring her now. I am looking for images of the
dash plaque that came with the car so I can reproduce one. The vinyl roof
has been removed in the pictures. 525 of these cars were built and sold in the Seattle area and came with 289 cubic inch 2V V8 engine, C4 automatic transmission, louvered hood, black stripes, black vinyl top, black interior, and featured unique golden plaques on the dashboard with the original owner's name engraved. Check out the ad I found in the January 26th, 1968, edition of the Seattle Times.

The California Special options group included a Shelby style decklid with a spoiler, unique taillights, and a blacked-out grille with out Mustang identification. In the CS option the GT was purposely missing from the normal GT wheelcovers. A similar option package was available in Colorado called the High Country Special.

This car was originally ordered by her grandma Frannie in California, who picked out one of the special factory colors advertised in the "Rainbow of Colors" Ford promotion between 1968 and 1969. Karen writes, I still drive this car regularly, but it could use some restoration, most pressingly a new hard top. I've been scouting around for a good body shop in the Raleigh NC area if you know of one. Thank! And you don't even want to see photos of my engine, it's not a pretty sight, but at only 160k, garaged most of her life in California, I'm still able to keep her going replacing part for part as they wear out. This was one of the 525 Gold Nugget Special cars ordered in the Seattle and Oregon areas. Most of the cars came in Sunlit Gold (color code Y) which some call Anniversary Gold (and think its a darker gold but we have no idea other than the ad from 1968 which says its Sunlit Gold), although all the standard and special 1968 colors were available. As part of the Gold Nugget Special package came a black vinyl roof, blacked out hood stripes (delete when restored) with louvers, and a golden dash plate with the owners name.

Since 1966, the Sprint options package's main purpose was to offer an engine upgrade to the next largest engine over the popular base model to prevent a shortage. For 1968 this engine was the 195hp (at 4600rpm), 289 cubic inch, 2 barrel V8. Economically priced the Sprint Package from the factory which includes the Argent styled steel wheels, fog lights, and wheel lip moldings.

The door tag on this car reads 65CI6A05D712W: 65C 2-door hardtop, I Lime Gold metallic exterior paint, 6A black bucket seats, 05D assembled on the 5th of April, 71 ordered in the Los Angeles area, 2 2.79:1 rear axle ratio, and 2 automatic C4 transmission.
