(from page 1 of the 1984 Collection) The Ford Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) group was started on the 1980 Mustangs to to help interested race car drivers build up competition versions of the Mustang, create a kits of bolt-on parts that could be purchased by average Mustang owners to modify their street cars, and create a series of specialty GT racing cars. This was the first car to do the later. This car came with an air-to-air intercooled, turbocharged, 175hp (at 4400rpm), 2.3 liter, electronic fuel injected, inline 4-cylinder.

The special model commemorated the Mustang's 20th anniversary and only came in Oxford White. No-one at Ford got Shelby's permission to use the "GT350" name. Shelby was working at the time with the inventor of the Mustang, Lee Iacocca at Chrysler, sued Ford for this infringement. This car has 1991+ five spoke wheels.

This Mustang was ordered with the SSP package for it to become a Florida Highway Patrol Police Car. The SSP package was available on the Mustang from 1982 through 1993.
