1965 The first Mustang GT options package was offered in 1965. There were 10 standard options in this package. (1) 225hp Challenger V8, (2) 3-speed manual floor shift, (3) dual straight-through exhaust with flared chrome tailpipe extensions, (4) Special Handling Package (heavy-duty suspension, 22:1 overall steering ratio), (5) fade-resistant front disc brakes, (6) grille mounted fog lamps, (7) Five dial instrument cluster (fuel, temperature, speedometer, oil pressure, amperes) with a black leather-grained vinyl dash panel, (8) GT fender badges, (9) bright-metal hood accent molding, and (10) Ford racing lower body tripe stripe. Substitutions and additions were often selected.
GT Options Package
1966 1966 was the second year for the Mustang GT. The GT package was very popular in 1966 because the option sold for $152.20 and included the high-performance 271hp (at 6000rpm), 289 cubic inch, V8 engine; dual exhaust; fog lamps; special ornamentation; disc brakes; GT racing stripes; and handling package components. Chrome rocker trim and chrome rear quarter ornaments were deleted.
Mustang GT
1967 The 1967 Mustang GT was a special options package which included an engine upgrade to the C-code base V8 engine with dual exhaust, grille mounted fog lamps, power front disc brakes, F70x14 tires, GT gas cap, the 1967 Handling Package, rocker panel stripe, and a GT emblem. The Handling Package was firmer suspension components, limited-slip rear axle, and 1 inch wheel with wire wheel covers.
Mustang GT
1967 The Mustang GTA was a Mustang GT with automatic transmission. The GTA standard options were engine upgrade to the C-code base V8 engine with dual exhaust, grille mounted fog lamps, power front disc brakes, F70x14 tires, GT gas cap, the 1967 Handling Package, rocker panel stripe, and a GTA emblem.
Mustang GTA
1968 The 1968 Mustang GT was a special options package that could be added to any Mustang with the 302 or 390ci V8 engines. The package contained grill mounted fog lights, dual exhaust, a body side c-stripe or rocker panel stripe, heavy duty suspension, 14 inch GT steel styled wheels, GT gas cap, and GT quarter panel emblems.
Mustang GT
1968 Fifty Wimbledon White 1968 NHRA Mustang GT Cobra Jet race cars were ordered for the 1968 National Hot Rod Association Winternationals in Los Angeles. VIN numbers range from 8F02R135007 to 8F02R135056 and the first batch of 18 were scheduled for assembly on December 30, 1967 with delete export brace, 428ci Cobra jet, GT option, steel wheels, aluminum intake, Wimbledon white, and no racing stripes. These cars were 135-series rated (VIN series). Gas Ronda, Jerry Harvey, Hubert Platt, Don Nicholson, Hubert Platt, and Al Joniec raced them for Ford at the 1968 NHRA Winternationals held February 2-4.
NHRA Cobra Jet / 135 Series
1968 There was a quantity of 4118 California Special (GT/CS) hardtops built in 1968. They had the same rear taillight panels and spoiler as the Shelby, fiberglass side scoops, stripes, blacked out grille, fog lights, hood locks, but did not come standard with the 1968 GT options package although 8 percent were ordered with a subset of them. All GT California Specials were built at the San Jose assembly plant and were offered with any engine and paint combination.
California Special
1968 The 1968 GT High Country Special was a midyear package similar to the California Special but offered in the Colorado area. It included an engine upgrade to the C-code base V8 engine with dual exhaust, a body side stripe, 14 inch steel styled wheels, side scoop, and High Country Special side decals. Unlike the previous years, the High Country Special was offered in any of the standard 1968 Mustang colors. Thank you Arlie Moses for correcting our error on available colors
High Country Special
1969 The 1969 Mustang GT sport option package included the 351ci Winsor V8, special handling options, racing stripes, dual exhaust, hood pin type latches, and styled wheels with Argent Silver trim and GT hubcaps and gas cap. The GT option($147 base upgrade) was offered on all body styles. This was the last year of the classic GT sports options package, the GT returned in 1983. Only 6,694 GT equipped Mustangs rolled off the assembly line in 1969.
Mustang GT
1982 The Mustang GT was back in 1982 as a sport upgrade package which was last offered on 1969 Mustangs. The 1982 GT replaced the previous year's Cobra and Sports package. The 1982 GT came with the newly introduced 157hp, 5.0L, V8 engine; twin exhaust pipes; forward facing non-functional hood scoop, 14 inch cast aluminum wheels introduced in 1979; a color matched version of the previous year's Cobra front grille; new front skirts; and were limited to Bright Red, Black or Silver.
Mustang GT
1983 New to the 1983 Mustang GT was a rear facing non-functional hood scoop, 16 spoke alloy wheels (many chose the optional 3 or 6 spoke cast aluminum TRX wheels), and a now 4-barrel Holley 600cfm carburetor, 5.0L V8 engine delivering 175hp. Later in the year a $250 higher Turbo GT was offered with a 2.3L, electronic fuel injected Turbo 4-cycle engine. GT standard upgrade equipment included the 1983 standard new black grille, body-colored headlamp trim, aerodynamic front skirts, rear spoiler, and performance suspension and handling.
Mustang GT
1984 The 1984 Mustang GT used the previous year's more popular 175hp, 5.0L, V8 and optional 2.3L, electronic fuel injected Turbo 4-cycle engine; came with hood stripes and decals, and functional front air dam with integrated fog lamps.
Mustang GT
1985 The 1985 GT Mustang came standard with an improved 5.0L, high output V8 engine putting out 210hp, 35hp over the previous year with a combination of stainless headers, low-friction roller tappets, high performance camshaft, and a more efficient accessory drive system controlling power to the air conditioner, power steering and alternator. The automatic transmission upgrade reduced the power back to 175hp by using the previous year's engine setup. This was the last year for the 4-cycle 2.3L Turbo engine upgrade which put out 145hp but better gas mileage. New to 1985 was the 10-spoke alloy wheel, lighter charcoal cloth interiors, charcoal body side molding with an embossed GT near the rear wheel, and a single lower half opened front grille with the Ford emblem just above.
Mustang GT
1986 The 1986 Mustang GT have carry-overs from 1985 such as a hood stripe with GT lettering, GT embossed in the bodyside molding, rear spoiler, 10 spoke alloy wheels. The GT hood lettering and rear spoiler could be deleted. New to 1986 was a more fuel efficient 5.0L V8 high output V8 engine which put out 200hp, true dual exhaust with dual mufflers and catalytic converters, 8.8 inch Traction-Lok rear axle.
Mustang GT
1987 The 1987 Mustang GT design benefited from the new flush mounted headlamps, front fascia, a return of bodyside skirts, and smooth rear quarter windows which extend over the previous year's fixed louvers. Only two engines were available for the 1987 Mustang: a 90hp 2.3L inline-4-cylinder for the standard Mustang LX, and a 225hp 5.0L V8 for the Mustang GT. New 1987 options include t-tops and turbine wheels.

1988 The 1988 Mustang GT came standard with the 225hp 5.0L High Output V8 engine, performance progressive rate springs, front and rear stabilizing bars, MacPherson front struts, Quadra-shocks in the rear, turbine wheels, performance tires, lower body skirts, closed grille, and upgraded interior.
Mustang GT
1989 The 1989 Mustang GT continued to look like the last several years of Mustang GT's back to 1987 with its aerodynamic front, side, and rear skirts; solid grille with center Ford emblem, 10 spoke turbine wheels, and 225hp, 5.0L, high output, V8 engine. New to 1989 was the cheese grater rear tail lights which was a body-color-matched cover over the rear lights with 6 slits.
Mustang GT
1990 The 1990 Mustang GT came standard with 16 spoke sport wheels, color matched body-side moldings, solid front grille, and 225hp 5.0L high-output V8 engine. Performance upgrades included stainless steel exhaust and headers, 10.84 inch front brakes, progressive springs, 1.3 inch front anti-sway bar, 0.83 inch rear anti-sway bar, performance struts and shocks, and 15 x 7 inch wheels with performance P225/60VR-15 Goodyear tires.
Mustang GT
1991 The 1991 Mustang GT received the same new 5 spoke, 16 inch, aluminum wheels as the 1991 5.0 LX. These wheels were so popular, that many older owners of Mustangs, bought them. The GT and LX convertible also received the new convertible top which when opened, fit more flush with the body. Specific for the 1991 GT was the 1990 GT carryover items such as solid grille with center mounted Ford emblem; front, side and rear aerodynamic body skirts with integrated fog lamps; and 225hp, 5.0L, High Output, V8 engine.
Mustang GT
1992 The 1992 GT shared the same outside looks at the 1991 Mustang GT with its solid grille with center ford emblem; 16 inch 5 spoke cast aluminum wheels; and aerodynamic front, side and rear skirt panels. Under the hood, the 1992 Mustang GT received the 205hp, 5.0L, High Output, V8 engine. The 1992 Mustang convertible GT was the first Mustang with a base model price over $20,000.
Mustang GT
1993 The 1993 Mustang GT came with the big 5.0L HO V8 engine, air conditioning, a cargo tie down net, floor mats, and optional two-tone paint. The 1993 Mustang GT only came in the hatchback and convertible body styles. The GT did not come in the 2-door sedan body style. Compared to the base level LX, the Mustang GT front upper grille was closed, fog lamps installed under the front bumper, side scoops, and Mustang GT embossed into the rocker panels.
GT Options Package
1994 The only way to get a 1994 Canary Yellow or 1994 Vibrant Red Mustang was to buy a Mustang GT. Canary Yellow and Vibrant Red were two colors reserved only for the Mustang GT coupe or Mustang GT convertible. There were two other reds available on Mustangs in 1994, but Canary Yellow was the only yellow available.

Canary Yellow or Vibrant Red Mustang GT
1995 Ford built a stripped down version of their Mustang GT in 1995. It was called the GTS. The GTS named option was only available in 1995. It continued as the 248A package through 1998. The GTS was a the powertrain of a GT with the characteristics of the Base V6 model. They came without spoilers or fog lamps. They had the same interior as the V6 except for the instruments. They did have the GT badging on the fenders and embossed into the rear bumper. A total of 6370 units were built in 1995.
GTS Options Package
1995 The 1995 Mustang GT received the 215hp 5.0L V8 engine, lower front valance integrated fog lamps, rear spoiler, roomier seats, standard anti-lock brakes, and a four-wheel disc brake system. The only way to get a 1995 Canary Yellow or 1995 Sapphire Blue Mustang was to buy a Mustang GT. Canary Yellow and Blue were two colors reserved only for the Mustang GT coupe or Mustang GT convertible. There was a Teal blue available on Mustangs in 1995, but Canary Yellow was the only yellow available
Mustang GT

1996 The 1996 Mustang GT was available as a 2-door coupe or convertible. The 1996 Mustang GT received a single wing spoiler, fog lamps in the lower front valance and the new 215hp, 4.6L, single-overhead cam, V8 engine.

1997 The 1997 Mustang GT came with 16 inch, star 5-spoke cast aluminum wheels (upgradeable to 17 inch 5-open-spoke aluminum wheels); upgraded axle; and the 215hp 4.6L V8 engine.

1998 The 1998 Mustang GT came with 16 inch cast aluminum wheels, lower valance integrated fog lamps, single rear wing spoiler, racing cloth front bucket seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, optional upgraded rear axle, optional Mach 460 sound system, and the 225hp 4.6L SOHC V8 engine.

1998 The GT Spring Edition consisted of special factory installed black hood stripes and 17-inch wheels on a GT. They came in both coupes and convertibles.

1999 The 1999 Mustang GT came with 16 inch cast aluminum wheels, lower valance integrated fog lamps, single rear wing spoiler, racing cloth front bucket seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, optional upgraded rear axle, and optional Mach 460 sound system following the GT options offered in 1998; but received the more powerful 260hp 4.6L SOHC V8 engine.
Mustang GT
2000 The 2000 Mustang GT comes with a 260 horsepower (at 5250rpm), 281 cubic inch (4.6 liter), single overhead cam V8 engine upgrade and rear spoiler. Options only for the GT included leather bucket seats; and 17 inch, five spoke alloy rims.

2000 Offered in the Spring of 2000 was the GT Spring Feature. It consisted of two black hood stripes with GT lettering, black Mustang bumper decal inserts, 35th Anniversary hood & side scoops, and 17x8 inch 5-spoke wheels. They where available in Performance Red, Black, Silver, Crystal White, and Zinc Yellow. 3091 Spring Editions were built.
GT Spring Feature
2001 The 2001 Mustang GT received upgraded wheels, valance mounted fog lamps, rear spoiler, interior upgrades, and 260hp 4.6L V8 engine.
Mustang GT
2002 The 2002 Mustang GT had the 4.6 liter, single overhead cam, V8 engine rated at 260hp (at 5250rpm). Just as the V6, the GT came standard with a rear spoiler and non-functional side scoops. Standard on the GT premium package was the anti-lock braking system with traction control and Mach 460 AM/FM stereo radio with cassette and in-dash 6-disc CD changer. Leather seats and four-speed automatic overdrive was an option.
Mustang GT
2003 The GT was a performance and trim upgrade to the base Mustang. It was offered in both the coupe and convertible body styles. The engine was upgraded to a 4.6L SOHC V8. Hood scoops and a rear decklid are standard equipment on a GT. Fog lights are installed under the front bumper in the corners.
GT Options Package
2003 With the 100th year celebration, Ford created a set of Centennial Edition vehicles. They were all painted black with Premium Verona-grain Imola leather seating surfaces in two-tone parchment and 100th Anniversary deck lid and side badges. In addition, the owner received a commemorative key chain and watch, and a copy of the book, "The Ford Century." The Mustang Centennial coupe and convertible were optioned with 17-inch premium alloy wheels, anti-lock brakes and traction control, dual exhaust, power driver's seat with power lumbar support, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and Mach 460 AM/FM Stereo with six-disc CD changer. 717 coupes and 1323 convertible Centennial Mustangs rolled off Ford's assembly lines in 2003.
100th Anniversary
2004 The 2004 Mustang GT came in two options packages: the Deluxe and the Premium. Both packages standard items include: 4.6 liter V8 engine; dual exhaust; fog lamps under the bumper; side scoops; rear spoiler; 17 inch wheels, and power adjusted 6-way drivers seat. The GT Deluxe package comes with the standard stereo and cloth seats while the GT Premium package comes with the leather seats and the Mach 460 audio system.

2006 The 2006 Mustang GT came with a 300hp 4.6L V8 engine, anti-lock brakes, dual exhausts, fog lamps in the grille, rear decklid spoiler, 17-inch wheels, and a 6-way power adjustable driver's seat. The GT can be upgraded to the Deluxe option which includes the Shaker 500 Audio system and a seat upgrade.

2007 The 2007 Mustang GT has two options packages: the deluxe and premium. Both packages include the 4.6 liter, over-head cam, 3 valve, V8 engine; stainless steel dual exhaust; TR3650 5-speed manual transmission; fog lamps; rear spoiler; performance tires; 17 inch premium painted cast aluminum wheels, and power adjusted 6-way drivers seat with power lumbar. The GT deluxe package comes with the standard stereo and cloth seats while the GT premium package comes with the Shaker 500 audio system and leather seats.

2007 The 2007 Mustang GT-CS California Special is a GT Premium options package which includes unique California Special contracting Dove or Parchment "GT Leather" inserts on leather sport bucket seats, CS badged floor mats, unique front fascia, larger air intake, a chin spoiler that is 1.5 inches lower than the standard GT, unique rear fascia with a race car like "diffuser", side scoops, bright rolled exhaust tips, and GT-CS tape stripe.

2008 The 2008 Mustang GT has two options packages: the deluxe and premium. Both packages include the 4.6 liter, over-head cam, 3 valve, V8 engine; stainless steel dual exhaust; TR3650 5-speed manual transmission; fog lamps; rear spoiler; performance tires; and 17 inch painted cast aluminum wheels. The GT deluxe package comes with the standard stereo and seats while the GT premium package comes with the Shaker 500 audio system and power adjustable leather sport bucket seats. Additional options include tire and stereo upgrades, premium 18 inch Aluminum wheels, HID headlamps, and a sport interior appearance package which includes color accents, sport steering wheel, and aluminum accents.
GT Options Package
2008 The 2008 Mustang GT/CS California Special consists of a $1,895 GT California Special options package which includes California Special side tape stripes, 18-inch polished aluminum wheels with a pony center cap and 235/50/ZR15 tires, and front floor mats with the Mustang logo. The 2008 GTCS is only available in the coupe.
Mustang GT/CS
2009 The 2009 Mustang GT has the standard and premium option package. Both include the 4.6 liter, over-head cam, 3 valve, V8 engine; stainless steel dual exhaust; TR3650 5-speed manual transmission; fog lamps; rear spoiler; performance tires; and 17-inch painted cast aluminum wheels. The GT premium package comes with the Shaker 500 audio system, Satellite Radio, and an interior upgrade including a power adjustable leather sport bucket seats. Additional options include an automatic transmission, glass roof, tire and stereo upgrades, seat upgrades, premium 18-inch Aluminum wheels, HID headlamps, a GT security system, and a Bullitt package.
GT Options Package
2009 The 2009 Mustang GT/CS California Special package is available on the Vista Blue, Performance White, Dark Candy Apple Red, Black, and Vapor Silver Mustang GTs for both the coupe and convertible body style. Previous years, the GTCS was only available in the coupe. It consists of California Special side tape stripes in black or white, special front and rear body treatment, side scoops, chrome exhaust tips, 18 inch polished aluminum wheels, and either Parchment or Dove colored seat inserts.
Mustang GT/CS
2010 The 2010 Mustang GT comes standard with the 315 horsepower 4.6L V8, newly designed low profile rear decklid spoiler, and upgraded wheels. Also the outside the GT front end includes a wide lower grille, black dividers between the large round headlamps with integrated turn signals and the grille with fog lamps and black chrome pony emblem.
GT Options Package
2010 The 2010 Hurst Mustang Pace Car is a limited edition built by the Hurst's Performance Center in Irvine, California. 50 units were built. They are all Performance White GT convertibles with white interiors and white tops. Other features include; gold stripes, custom Hurst supercharger yielding 435hp and 400 ft-lb of torque, 20-inch polished forged aluminum wheels with gold-painted center spokes, BF Goodrich's g-Force KDW tires, an Eibach suspension components, Hurst-tuned coil-over dampers and upgraded anti-roll bars, gold Hurst shift handle, Hurst embroidered seats and floor mats, and Hurst team signatures on the trunk.
Hurst Pace Car
2011 The 2011 Mustang GT comes with the new all aluminum, 5.0 liter, double overhead cam, TiVCT, V8 rated at 412 horsepower and a 5.0 fender emblem to match. A performance package adds 19 inch alloy wheels and Brembo brakes. Also new to 2011 is a host of performance and handling improvements. Just as 2010 GT, the front grille is blackened and has fog lamps.

2011 The 2011 California Special GT with chrome billet grille with body color surround and tri-bar offset pony badge, side stripes, lower fascia with fog lamps, 19 x 8.5 inch machined painted wheels, decklid California Special badge, door panel carbon inserts, front and rear leather seats with carbon inserts, premium carpeted front floor mats with embroidered pony logo, rear diffuser-style lower fascia, pedestal spoiler, decklid graphics, and side scoops.
California Special
2011 50 special Mustang GT Pace Cars were built. One of which was used to actually pace the 2010 Daytona 500 race. They will be painted Race Red with race decals and special red, white and blue stripes. Modifications from the stock GT include: special Ford Racing suspension kit, strut tower brace, and mufflers; special 19-inch wheels with an Brembo brakes; and a modified front valance.built. 2012 The 2012 Mustang GT comes with the 412hp, all-aluminum block, 5.0 liter, V8 engine. Other upgrades are 18 inch wide spoke wheels or an array of wheel optional upgrades, 3:31 limited slip rear differential, grille mounted fog lamps, special rear spoiler, black grille accents including a black pony, and black front and rear splitters.

2012 The 2012 Mustang GT California Special is a GT coupe or convertible upgrade which includes a billet style grille, upgraded wheels, and a GT/CS side stripe.

2012 The 2012 Kentucky Speedway Pace Car is a limited edition of 46 specially painted and optioned premium optioned GT Mustang convertible with a distinctive red and blue lower bodyside stripe, large Kentucky Speedway lettering, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series graphics, the 401A optional performance white striped charcoal black leather seats and door pony badge, GT accessory package 6 which contains the hood and side scoops as well as pedestal rear spoiler and decklid panel, and standard 19 inch premium GT wheels.

2013 The 2013 Mustang GT comes with the 420hp, all-aluminum block, 5.0 liter, V8 engine. Other upgrades are 18 inch wide spoke wheels or an array of wheel optional upgrades, 3:31 limited slip rear differential, grille mounted fog lamps, special rear spoiler, black grille accents including a black pony, and black front and rear splitters.

2013 The 2013 Mustang GT/CS is an upgrade package for the GT inspired by the 1968 Mustang GT California Special which came back in 2007. In 2013 the Mustang GT/CS receives new stripes, wheels, side scoops, and spoiler on top the newly designed GT vented hood, grille, and tail lamps.

2014 The 2014 Mustang GT comes with the 420hp, all-aluminum block, 5.0 liter, V8 engine; and can be ordered with the Premium GT package which includes leather front seats, MyColor and Track Apps dash instruments, ambient lighting, and metal interior trim accents to name a few. GT option packages include an interior trim color accent package, California Special edition, Brembo Brakes package, GT Track package, and several others.

2014 The 2014 Mustang GT/CS is an upgrade package for the GT inspired by the 1968 Mustang GT California Special. Includes unique black billet-style grille, unique lower fascia with fog lamps and air splitter, 19" black-painted machined aluminum wheels with P245/45R19 tires, GT/CS side and hood stripes, black hood vents, unique decklid badge with name in gas cap badge, unique instrument panel finish and door-panel inserts, leather-trimmed front bucket seats with Miko Suede inserts, premium carpeted front floor mats with embroidered logo, rear diffuser-style lower fascia, pedestal rear spoiler, and side scoops.

2014 A total of 150 Hertz Penske GTs were created to be rented at select US Airports. The came with gold stripes, Boss 302 front splitter, GT500 rear valance, Recaro racing seats, custom floor mats, special door sill plates, Laguna Seca gauge pod, touchscreen infotainment system, GPS, back-up camera, optimized engine ECU, new air intake, four-tailpipe exhaust system, 3.55 rear, upgraded suspension, and Brembo brakes.

2015 The 2015 Mustang GT comes with the 420hp, all-aluminum block, 5.0 liter, V8 engine; 5.0 fender emblem; GT rear badge, fog lamps, and several others. Along with the 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 engine there is a 3.31:1 gear ratio with limited-slip rear differential, electronic line-lock (track use only), engine oil cooler, larger brake rotors with 4-piston calipers, launch control (manual transmission only), and optional selectable drive modes with a 4-gang toggle switch pack for Normal, Sport, Track, and Snow/Wet. There are 18 inch magnetic-painted machined aluminum wheels, dual bright rolled and polished exhaust tips, hood-vented air extractors, and raised blade-styled decklid spoiler. There is also a GT performance package option.
Mustang GT
2016 The 2016 Mustang GT comes with the 5.0 liter, V8 engine; 5.0 fender emblem; GT rear badge, fog lamps, and several other features including unique wheels and handling/performance options. The GT Premium adds the four Selectable Drive Mode switches, heated and cooled front seats, leather-trimmed seats, aluminum pedals, ambient lighting, audio upgrade, dual zone temperature control, illuminated door sill plates, satin aluminum dash panel, and much more.

2016 The 2016 Mustang GT/CS is an upgrade package to the Mustang GT which includes unique hood and side stripes, unique front grille with off-center tri-pony emblem, unique wheels, rear decklid California Special badge, dash badge, and engine badge to name a few.
California Special
2017 The 2017 Mustang GT has the 435hp 5.0L V8 engine, bright exhaust tips, hood-vented air extractors, raised blade-style decklid spoiler, and special wheels on the outside. On the inside, metal dash trim and of course all the available upgraded options. Upgrade packages include the audio and blind spot Equipment Group, Black Accent Package, California Special, GT Performance Package, Interior & Wheel Package, and Premier Trim with Color Accent Group.
Mustang GT
2017 The 2017 Mustang GT/CS is an optional package for the GT which includes 19" ebony black painted machined aluminum wheels; unique performance front air splitter, unique black front grille, hood and side stripes; strut tower brace; black-painted raised blade-style rear decklid spoiler, sideview mirrors and hood-vented air extractors; GT/CS rear decklid badge; unique dark taillamp bezels; leather-trimmed seats with Miko suede cloth inserts and red stitching; diamond plate aluminum instrument panel trim; and premium carpeted front floor mats with red stitching.
