|Black Mustangs at MustangAttitude.com|
The first Black Mustang was introduced the first year of Mustang production in 1964.
Black is black so not surprisingly there was only one shade of black introduced in 1964; Raven Black, and continued to be named Raven Black until 1975 when it became just Black. In 1969 a green shade of black was introduced named Black Jade.
There were 54 offerings of Black paint in 53 of the 55 production years of the Mustang. What years did not have a Black Mustang? 1972, 1973 and 1974. Remember these were the years of avocado green and harvest gold appliances. Follow this link to see photos of all Black Mustangs on this site.
There were a few black featured Mustang special models.
Raven Black 1966 Shelby GT350H
The 1966 Shelby GT-350H only came in Raven Black. The "H" stands for Hertz. These cars were sold to the Hertz Rental Car Corporation and were available to the public for renting! Some early ones came with 4-speed manual transmissions. Since so many came back from rental customers with burnt out clutches, the later ones were all built as automatics.
The Black and gold Shelby Hertz Mustang came back in 2006 as modified GT coupe and in 2007 as a modified GT convertible. Both year's models only came in black and had gold stripes, a redesigned hood with pins, brushed aluminum grille with offset tri-bar pony emblem, 18 inch aluminum wheels (black in 2007), Hertz door sill emblems, and Ford Racing engine upgrades. 500 of each year were made.
