... PICTURE SET CONTINUED FROM PREVIOUS PAGE Oxford White 2002 Mustang Saleen S-281SC coupe, rear end view. There are three Saleen trademarks on the back of this car. One, the "281 SuperCharged" emblem set on the left side of the trunk lid. Two, the oval Saleen stylized "S" on the right side of the trunk lid. Three, the "Saleen" name embossed into the rear bumper. Yep, no doubt - this is a Saleen. This Saleen has white Saleen wheels and Saleen labeled brake calipers. In 2002, you could get the regular 285hp normally aspirated V8, this 365hp Supercharged version, or the extreme 425hp version. Black 2002 Mustang Saleen S-281E Extreme coupe factory serial number 53. Saleen only converted 34 Mustangs to Extreme coupes in 202. This is one of them. Extreme comes from the fact that the engine puts out 425 horsepower which is 60 horsepower more than the standard Saleen S-281S/C supercharged version. The Extreme comes standard with the 13-inch Saleen brakes and upgraded wheel and tire package. Items exclusive to the Extreme include; louvered hood, S351 rear spoiler, and center exit exhaust. Here you can see the S351 Saleen spoiler and center exit exhaust exclusive to the Saleen S281-E Extreme. The Saleen Extreme model engine was upgraded from the regular S-281 model with a Saleen spec; forged steel crankshaft, forged steel connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, forged aluminum cylinder heads, Saleen high performance valve springs, and special Saleen cam shafts. All that adds up to 425hp at 6000rpm and 440ft-lb of torque at 4000rpm. On the firewall is this Saleen ID tag. It shows a manufacture date of 7/02, an ID# of 02-0053, the last part of the VIN, and the S-281E model. The interior is Dark Charcoal in color. There is an extra guage pod in the center of the dash to monitor the Supercharger. The special racing seats are manufactured by Recaro. Here is the original window sticker for this 2002 Mustang Saleen S281-E Extreme. This car cost $63,759 when new. Only extra option on this car was the 18-inch chrome wheels.
