Karen Rose in Raleigh, North Carolina owns a very rare Madagascar Orange 1968 Mustang. This car was originally ordered by her grandma Frannie in California, who picked out one of the special factory colors advertised in the "Rainbow of Colors" Ford promotion between 1968 and 1969. Karen writes,
I still drive this car regularly, but it could use some restoration, most pressingly a new hard top. I've been scouting around for a good body shop in the Raleigh NC area if you know of one. Thank! And you don't even want to see photos of my engine, it's not a pretty sight, but at only 160k, garaged most of her life in California, I'm still able to keep her going replacing part for part as they wear out. She's a good gal at 40. A
larger wallpaper view of this car is also available.
Jim Foster shares photos of his black 1968 Mustang. It has it's original 289ci V8 and an automatic transmission. Jim tells us,
"This is my first car, 'DABEEST'. I have owned it since August 1976. It was my daily driver for the first 30 years. During the time I have had the car, I have put over 500,000 miles on the original engine and it has not been rebuilt. On May 26, 2006 it was totaled in an accident. I took the money I got from the insurance company, cashed out a 401K, and restored my car. Two of the following pictures are of the accident. Since the restoration, I have entered it into numerous car shows/events and have won numerous trophies/awards and several honorable mentions. It was also used in the music video 'The One that Got Away, by Katy Perry. 'DABEEST' can be found on the web."
The interior is black.
The trunk has floor and spare wheel covers. There is a matching bag for tools.
This is a shot of when Jim's Mustang was wrecked. Looks like it just happened!
Wow. The whole rear is smashed up to the rear window.

Reiny van Uden of the Netherlands just sent us this updated photo of his new Special Order Yellow 1968 Rainbow of Colors promotional Mustang GT. The GT stripe and wheels were put back to their original style. The 1968
Rainbow of Colors promotion offered new Mustang owners a choice of one of 13 or more colors of the rainbow with wild names. Some of the wild yellow paint names were
Dandelion Yellow,
Yummy Yellow, and
Razzle-Dazzle Yellow. Most of the cars we have seen were baselevel Mustang hardtops, so this is a special car. Color matching the original paint shows this car was restored to its original bright Dandelion Yellow (Ford special paint code
WT6018) which was one of the 13 colors. Also
view this video of this car and others of Reiny's.
This photo shows Reiny van Uden's Special Order Yellow 1968 Mustang GT fastback packed up and ready to be sent to him. The original 1968 special order factory code belongs to a group of 133 specially ordered Mustangs built in the San Jose area and shipped to Los Angeles for the
Rainbow of Colors sales promotion.
Here is an earlier photo of Reiny van Uden's 1968 Rainbow of Colors promotional Mustang GT in possibly a different shade of special order yellow and aftermarket wheels. The car was repainted in 2005. The door data tag reads
63A,
2A,
07B scheduled for assembly on February 7th, 1968,
710782 ordered in the Los Angeles area under special order number 0708,
7 3.25:1 axle ratio,

This is a special order yellow, 1968, Mustang GT is one of the Rainbow of Colors promotional Mustangs from California. It is owned by Reiny van Uden from Volkel, The Netherlands, and is our
Attitude Of The Week for the week of July 15th, 2012. The yellow of the
Rainbow of Colors promotion went by many names in advertisements including Dandelion Yellow, Yummy Yellow and Razzle-Dazzel Yellow. Many of the promotional cars were Sprint optioned hardtops. This is more rare since it is a GT fastback. See the previous photos in this set to see how it looked before Reiny changed out the wheels and had the C-stripe put back on.
Cool photo of Reiny van Uden's Special Order Yellow 1968 Mustang GT fastback. It even has a Rainbow of Colors license plate showing all 13 colors of the promotion.
