Under the hood is an A-code 289ci, 4-barrel, V8 engine. Mike added a K&N Air Filter, and it has a vintage correct Shelby Intake with dual quad set up (Carter's).

This is a real Wimbledon White 1966 Shelby GT-350 fastback. It is a "carry-over" car. The first 252 Shelby GT-350s for 1966 had 1965 Mustang bodies and 1965 Mustang serial number plates under their Shelby serial number plates. These "carry-over" cars had mostly 1965 features including standard Koni shocks and their engines where painted black instead of blue.

That is the 289ci High Performance V8 engine. Most of the 1965 "carry-over" Shelbys had the black painted engine like this one. The special Shelby VIN plate can be seen off to the right on the inner edge of the fender.
Just the basics in here. It has Ray Brown 3-inch competition seat belts.
There is a cobra emblem on the tachometer and on steering wheel center cap.
No back seat! Just a roll bar. Rear seats where not an option in 1965, but they were in 1966.
Check out this 1966 Mustang magazine ad. It features a Candy Apple Red 1966 Mustang hardtop passing a green traffic light. It starts off with, "Okay, you can stop asking, 'Why doesn't Mustang bolt Cruise-O-Matic behind the 271 solid-lifter V8?" It talks about the new option of an automatic with the High Performance 271ci V8 engine.
    
This Emberglo 1966 Mustang GT fastback with K-code engine was the Attitude Of The Week for 9/16/2007. The GT package was very popular in 1966 because the option sold for $152.20 and included the high-performance 271hp (at 6000rpm), 289 cubic inch, V8 engine; dual exhaust; fog lamps; special ornamentation; disc brakes; GT racing stripes and handling package components. This Mustang shows off its Red Band nylon tires which was a option for $48.89, and styled steel wheels for $93.84.
