1965 GT Options Package Mustang


GT Options Package

The first Mustang GT options package was offered in 1965. There were 10 standard options in this package. (1) 225hp Challenger V8, (2) 3-speed manual floor shift, (3) dual straight-through exhaust with flared chrome tailpipe extensions, (4) Special Handling Package (heavy-duty suspension, 22:1 overall steering ratio), (5) fade-resistant front disc brakes, (6) grille mounted fog lamps, (7) Five dial instrument cluster (fuel, temperature, speedometer, oil pressure, amperes) with a black leather-grained vinyl dash panel, (8) GT fender badges, (9) bright-metal hood accent molding, and (10) Ford racing lower body tripe stripe. Substitutions and additions were often selected.

Twilight Turquoise Blue GT Options Package
Twilight Turquoise 1965 Mustang GT convertible owned by Kerry Sturgeon from Tijeras, New Mexico. This was our featured Attitude Of The Week for the week starting June 26, 2011. Kerry lists the options; 289ci 4v 275hp 'A' code V8 engine (rebuilt), GT rocker panel stripes, GT grille-mounted fog lamps , GT dual chrome exhaust, trumpet exhaust tips thru rear valance, left-hand (driver-side) remote mirror, right-hand (passenger-side) mirror, 5-dial instrument dash, Rally-Pac instrumentation (clock and tach pods), Deluxe steering, wheel (wood), push button radio and antenna, Pony interior, electric top, factory air, center console, and Styled Steel wheels (V8).

Twilight Turquoise Blue GT Options Package
Twilight Turquoise 1965 Mustang GT fastback owned by Paul Sewell from Wilmington, Delaware. It has the A-code 289ci V8 4-barrel engine and a manual transmission. Paul wonders, "Built at Metuchen, NJ plant on 5/28/65. Could this be one of the first of the GTs? IT was built one month after they started offering the GT package."

Wimbledon White GT Options Package
Wimbledon White 1965 Mustang GT hardtop owned by Reiny van Uden from Netherlands. It still has it's original 289 4V engine and an manual transmission. Reiny adds, "We bought this car in 1996 from the second owner. The first owner had the car for 29 years. We restored it in 1998/2001 to show condition. We have also the original window sticker. The car is a factory GT."

Caspian Blue GT Options Package
Caspian Blue Mustang GT convertible owned by Eddie Anderson from Mobile, Alabama. This is our featured Attitude Of The Week for the week starting February 3, 2013. It is a factory GT with a 289ci 4v engine. It has a bench seat. Eddie is the third owner. The car has a bit over 26,000 miles on the clock and has had only one repaint. The Ragoon Red 1965 Mustang hardtop is Eddie's as well.

Rangoon Red GT Options Package
Rangoon Red 1965 Mustang GT fastback owned by Joe Amabile from Woodbury, Connecticut. This is our featured Attitude Of The Week for the week starting November 10, 2013. This Mustang has its original 289ci V8 and a manual transmission. Joe adds, "I bought this fastback 15 years ago and it was a rusted out mess. My wife and I just finished a total restoration. We did all the work on the car with exception of the engine rebuild. It is a 289 fastback with 4-speed top loader. We have attended six car shows so far and have won four."

This restored and modified Twilight Turquoise 1965 Mustang GT convertible was our Attitude Of The Week for August 3rd, 2008. It has the GT rocker panel painted stripes (the other GT option was metal rocker panel trim), fog lamps, and the high performance 289 cubic inch, 4 barrel, V8 engine originally rated at 271hp (at 6000rpm).
