Restored White 1977 Ghia optioned Mustang II coupe with a green vinyl half roof, color matched side molding, color matched sport mirrors, fog lamps, wire wheel covers, bumper guards, and a 302ci (5.0L) V8 engine. The half vinyl roofs, pinstripes (not on this car), unique wheel covers, and color keyed vinyl insert moldings were part of the 1977 Ghia options group.

This Cobra II has red stripes with white color combination which was new for 1977. The other new color combination for the Cobra II in 1977 was white with green stripes. These two color combinations joined the previous years colors of white with blue stripes, blue with white stripes, and black with gold stripes. This car has 62K miles on it and is original except for the wheels, tires, and radio.

This White with red striped 1977 Cobra II Mustang hatchback needs a bit of work but it shows what you got with the $535 Cobra II options package with the required $58 power brakes. 21% of all Mustang hatchbacks sold in 1977 were ordered with the Cobra II package. The Cobra package came with rack and pinion steering, front disc brakes, the 2.3 liter 4 cylinder engine, racing stripes, blacked out grille, black racing mirrors, rear window louvers, rear quarter window louvers, front air dam, a non-functional rear opening hood scoop, rear wing, aluminum instrument and door panels, Cobra emblems, and styled steel wheels.

This Cobra II has the largest engine offered in 1977, a 302 cubic inch (5.0L), 2 barrel V8, rated at 134hp (at 4000rpm). This engine was not part of the Cobra II package.

1977 Free Wheelin' Ford promotional booklet designed for all 1977 Ford offerings but the cover features the Black with Gold striped Cobra II introduced the year earlier. The booklet features the Econoline Van, Cruising Wagon and Van, Mustang, Pickup, 4x4 Bronco, Pinto, Granada, LTD II, and Thunderbird; all in outdoor settings with their owners free wheeling.

Ford. A giant step for vankind is the theme for page 4 and 5 of the 1977 Free Wheelin' Ford promotional booklet. Nothing says the 1970's but round van and wagon rear side windows and wide multicolored angular stripes. I remember my brother actually built and painted a plastic model kit of the wagon to match the one featured here. They called it a stylish mini-van version of the Pinto with new aerodynamic front end and porthole side windows. The black rocker panels and bright multicolored stripes are part of the 1977 Free Wheelin' options package.
