The Saleen Extreme model engine was upgraded from the regular S-281 model with a Saleen spec; forged steel crankshaft, forged steel connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, forged aluminum cylinder heads, Saleen high performance valve springs, and special Saleen cam shafts. All that adds up to 425hp at 6000rpm and 440ft-lb of torque at 4000rpm.
