It has full wheel covers with spinners and metal rocker panel trim.

(from page 46 of the 1966 Collection) At least 50 of these blue and white 1966 Mustang hardtops were given out by the Player's cigarette company in many separate sweepstake in Quebec, Manitoba, Ontario, and Alberta between October 1965 and September of 1966. All Mustang has the 200 cubic inch six cylinder engine, 3 speeds manual transmission, full wheel covers, and AM radio. The Blue and White exterior paint matched the Player's cigarette package. We think the blue is 1966 Nightmist Blue which is very dark and Wimbledon White. We also have several newspaper advertisements for this promotion as well as many of the winners. This set of photos was submitted to us from a viewer as well as the first newspaper article in the second set.

(from page 47 of the 1966 Collection) Submitted by a viewer, this is a Player's Mustang special edition advertisement from the National Library and Archives of Quebec / Le Petit Journal for the Week of June 5, 1966. Player's Cigarettes gave out a series of blue and white specially painted 1966 Mustangs as part of this sweepstakes. This ad says, Enter the contest Mustangs Players Hurry in! You to can easily be among the winners of a spirited Mustang 1966. A Mustang will be awarded in prizes every week. So you can participate in the competition many times. Nothing could be simpler: you just have to get a Player's cigarette packet and ship your entry to the address listed below. In the rules it says that a drawing will be preformed every week starting June 21st and ending August 23rd (10 weeks). Similar contests ran in Alberta, Ontario, and Manitoba from 1965 through 1968. All Mustangs have the 200 cubic inch, six cylinder engine, 3 speeds manual transmission and, full hubcaps, and an AM radio.

This advertisement calls the sweepstakes a weekly contest, but some later versions had it every two weeks. It came from the October 26th, 1965 edition of The Lethbridge Herald of Lethbridge, Alberta. It says that every week for 10 weeks starting October 25th a Player's Mustang will be given away.

Besides the steel styled wheels, this car has a parchment pony interior, and a 289 V8 under the hood. I photographed this car last year at the Mustang Round up car show in the Seattle area.

(from page 47 of the 1966 Collection) What makes a Santa Special Edition 1966 Mustang? How about red paint, white-wall tires, and a special sale before Christmas? Twin City Pontiac in Monroe Louisiana advertised this Santa Special Mustang in the December 20, 1868 edition of The Monroe News-Star newspaper.

(from page 47 of the 1966 Collection) Bob Davidson Ford in Baltimore Maryland created the 1966 Mustang Colt special edition. The 1966 Mustang Colt cost $2195. It was first advertised in the February 22nd 1966 edition of the The Baltimore Sun newspaper. It was part of their Washington's Birthday celebration sale, but continued to be advertised throughout the year. The dealership was giving away Colt-Redskin football tickets with the purchase of any new 1966 Ford in stock. The Colts were located in Baltimore in 1966. The Bob Davidson dealership was located just two blocks west of the stadium. The new 1966 Mustang Colt was Custom equipped to put the kick in your driving. I wonder if they were referring to a horse kick or a football kick? The Mustang Colt special consisted of a automatic transmission, the Colt "Special" 200 engine (200ci 6-cylinder), full console, wire wheels, chrome air cleaner, heater, defroster, full carpet, and a padded dash. From the wording, this Mustang started off as a Sprint 200 factory special which had the 200ci engine with the chrome air cleaner. We don't know if the Mustang Colt was offered in the convertible body style as well. This early ad did not talk of any special badges for the Mustang Colt. We did however talk with an existing owner who has verified a badge, Colt script letters, and that they were primarily Blue or White hardtops.

It still has the original 390ci engine in it. This was the biggest engine you could get in the 1967 Mustang. Steijvers has owned it since August 2007. He bought it in Alabama (US) and had it shipped to Holland. Steijvers is interested in getting in contact with other GTA 390 owners.

This Mustang is owned by Johnny Walker from Forrest, Illinois. He had this story to share, "I purchased my 67 from an eighteen year old for $500 in 1990. I know that one of the front fenders came from a 68, and also the driver's door appears to be a replacement (signs of three different paint colors). It has a 289 with a 2-barrel carb. Is a 3-speed on the floor. It has Gabriel HyJacker air shocks, 70s series tires on Superior wire-spoke rims. I'm gradually changing the interior from red to black. I plan to install headers with dual exhaust, using Summit Patriot mufflers. Other plans include; K&N filters, Yamaha AM/FM cassette deck, Cobra 29XLR CB radio with K-40, small chrome mud flaps, and a sequential taillight kit. All in due time as money will allow. Someday it will get a new paint job but, the color is not determined at this time."

Frank says, I found this special ordered Mustang Ski Country Special on cars.com. I had been looking for a decent 289 Mustang for about a year and found this in my back yard the next town over Coarsegold, California. Owned it for one year and 6 months, I got curious and ran the VIN#. It kept coming up special ordered, so I got more curious and ordered a Marti Report. The Marti Report solved the special order, it was something I never knew existed. What's a Ski Country Special? I did some more research and I'm very happy I did. This is 1 of 247 Ski Country Specials produced according to the Marti Report. I did very little mods. I had painted black stripes and new rims and dual exhaust on it. The rest of the car is stock. I also recovered the original badge for this model. I called the original owner up and asked her what was so special about the car; and she said her dad ordered it as a special model and there was some kind of badge that went on the decklid that was never put back on the car after one repaint. The owner asked me if I wanted the badge and I said sure; and now it's on the rear decklid where the dealer installed it in 1967.

This was our Attitude Of The Week for September 21st, 2008. Corey writes: I just pulled the car out after ten years of storage. My mom was the original owner, who bought it when she was in her 20s. Lots of original parts still on it (glass, chrome, California smog parts, wheel covers, etc.). This was a daily driver for a number of years but remains in pretty good condition.

It was our featured Attitude Of The Week starting 10-5-08. Curly purchased the car from its second owner in 2004 - who knew little about the car's history. Curly sent a sample of the original paint to Marti Autoworks who provided him with the color and color code - Purple Metallic, color code M3203-A. Curly adds, "I've talked to the folks at Marti Autoworks about the car and they are aware of only one other '67 Mustang painted Purple Metallic (it is in Iowa). The car was ordered into Chicago and was an 'Order Type: Fleet". I am currently working with the Village Manager in Lombard, Illinois concerning the car. They are called 'Lilac Town' and have or had a fleet of purple cars. We are trying to determine if my car was ever a part of their fleet or the personal car of one of the city officials." If you can offer Curly any assistance with the origins of his car, please comment below.
