"The car was found on the internet and purchased February 2004 from an exotic car dealer in the Seattle, Washington area. The photos I received with car indicated that the body work and paint were done in September 1997 and is still in very good shape. The engine bay and engine along with interior and floor pans were in pretty sad shape. The mileage at time of purchase was 54,243. Once the engine and tranny was pulled, the undercarriage was inspected completely. We found several modifications that led me to believe car had been extensively drag raced at one time. The right rear shock housing was pushed up and split in three areas. The trans linkage, clutch bracket and shifter had been modified. Since my purchase, the following work has been completed: interior gutted and replaced, dash repainted correct color and all dash pieces replaced, factory console replaced with a humphugger console, factory shifter replaced with a Hurst shifter, electrical gauges replaced with mechanical gauges, 390 engine replaced with a 428 Cobra Jet engine, grille replaced with correct GT/CS grille and Marchal fog lights, front and rear bumpers replaced, engine bay detailed, rearend rebuilt with new axles and 325:1 Posi w/traction bars, GT pop-open gas cap added, standard LED sequential tail lights from Mustang Project, and the driver's side floor pan and passenger side floor pans replaced along with left front torque box."

Color of the Month was a promotion for the first four months of 1968 where special colors were connected to main holidays for special sales: Black Hills Gold paint for the New Year celebration in January, Passionate Pink for Valentine's day in February, Emerald Green for St. Patrick's day in March, and in this case Eastertime Coral for Easter in April. Imagine an
Easter Collection of Colors sale showing Eastertime Coral Mustang next to a Seafoam Green, Meadowlark Yellow, and Diamond Blue 1968 standard factory color Mustangs; and a Passionate Pink Mustang left over from the Valentine's day, February color of the month. (15 photos of a 1968 Sierra Blue Mustang GT Rainbow Of Colors Hardtop) This probably a one of a kind Sierra Blue 1968 Rainbow of Colors promotional GT Mustang hardtop. It has a black vinyl roof, aftermarket wheels, black side C stripe, vented hood, fog lamps, metal rocker panel trim, and a 390ci V8 engine. Scott Johnson's family bought this car in the mid 1970's from a local dealer, probably only one other owner. During the 70s the car was repainted to a match of its original factory color. Scott says that everyone thought that this could not have been a factory color since nothing like it is on the 1968 Mustang color charts until he recently ordered a Marti Report which showed the car as one of the Rainbow of Color promotional GT hardtops and it was painted Sierra Blue. The 1968-69 Rainbow of Colors promotion offered 13 special colors, one of them was Sierra Blue. This amazing car was our

I got this car in 1990 and finished restoring it in 1996.
It was not show room quality, but it was a very nice car. For the entire time I've had it, I was misreading the data plate and didn't know exactly what the car was. Even few years ago I did search on internet of Orange 68 Mustang, and got nothing. Just within the past few weeks I finally
found out the car was a part of the Rainbow Mustang promotion of 68
and 69. I don't have the original engine in it because when I got the
car someone had put a straight six in it. I also had a 67 mustang with
a 289 4v that was usable so I rebuilt it. Also no longer have the C4
automatic for it. I put in the Ford design 4 speed (RUG-E2), but no
modifications other than bolt-ons. The car only has 23,000
miles on it since restoring it, but due to it sitting outside in the
weather, it needs to be completely restored again (except the
engine, transmission, and rear end). We've included some scanned in photos after its first restoration in 1996, hopefully Dale can get us more in the future. Also take a look at our

The CS stands for California Special which included a Shelby style decklid with a spoiler, sequential taillights, and a blacked-out grille with out Mustang identification. The GT was also missing from the normal GT wheelcovers. A similar option package was available in Colorado called the
High Country Special.

Attitude of the Week for April 26th, 2009. It was built in San Jose, ordered in Los Angeles, under a special order with special paint WT3822. Mal writes:
My Mustang was imported in to Australia from Los Angeles as a running car and I purchased it from an importer. I knew little about Mustangs and the hobby grew from there. The body and Paint have been refurbished and the color has been professionally matched to the original color in the trunk. Body was rust free fortunately. The Mustang was in very good original condition when purchased and I drove it home, I have done most of the mechanicals and put it all together my self, I also have the original owners manual and is a matching numbers car. But most of all, I love driving it. Spanish Gold shares the same paint code as Black Hills Gold used in January 1968 for the Color of the Month Mustang promotion. The Color of the Month promotion offered a special ordered color and sport options for each of the first 4 months of 1968. Black Hills Gold was offered in January for the New Years; Passionate Pink in February for Valentines day; Emerald Green in March for Saint Patrick's Day, and Eastertime Coral for April. This car was originally Lime Gold with a gold interior, but it is an original California Special model. The California Special included a front grille with no horse or other emblem, Marchal or Lucas fog lights (this one has Lucas fog lamps), competition style hood locks/pins, turn signals integrated in the hood, Shelby style side scoops,
GT/CS Striping and California special script, fiberglass trunk lid and extensions (same as the Shelby convertible), horizontal tail lights (same as 65 Thunderbird and 68 Shelby), pop off gas cap, and plain GT wheel covers (although this one has GT wheel covers).

Rainbow of Colors promotion which featured custom colors and upgrades. Jeff writes,
I wanted to give you an update and send some new pictures of Maggie Mae. She is on the road and doing great! I entered her in the 2011 PNWMC Mustang II's R a Mustang Too Spring Show n Shine and had a blast sharing her story with others and listening to the comments like 'I didn't know they came in that color' or 'Look at that, it has a bench seat'. Over all I would have to say she was very appreciated by others as she was awarded 2nd place in the '67 - '68 Coupe Class. It was a proud day. Now I am enjoying showing her off and eager for September to arrive and with it the 4 day International Mustang Show in Spokane.
(5 photos of a 1968 Royal Maroon Mustang Sprint Hardtop) This is a Royal Maroon 1968 Mustang Sprint with a 195 hp (at 4600 rpm), 289 cubic inch, 2 barrel, V8. The Sprint options packages started midway through the 1966 model year when Ford introduced the Millionth Mustang Sale featuring the limited-edition "Sprint" package which had a lot more chrome and a different engine due to engine availability problems in 1966. The Sprint option remained in later years with just the additional chrome and paint options which gave the car a GT look without the price. The 1968 Mustang Sprint option consisted of GT stripes, pop-open gas cap and the full wheel covers of six cylinder Mustangs. V-8s got in addition, the styled steel wheels with Wide Oval Tires and the GT fog lamps.
(4 photos of a 1968 Sunlit Gold Mustang Golden Nugget Special Hardtop) Scott Rear of Pitt Meadows, BC, Canada sent us this photo of his Sunlit Gold 1968 Golden Nugget Special Mustang hardtop with its original 289ci 2V V8 engine. This original Golden Nugget Special was purchased from Perry Morrell Motors which used to be in Silverton Oregon. Scott says,
In the process of restoring her now. I am looking for images of the
dash plaque that came with the car so I can reproduce one. The vinyl roof
has been removed in the pictures. 525 of these cars were built and sold in the Seattle area and came with 289 cubic inch 2V V8 engine, C4 automatic transmission, louvered hood, black stripes, black vinyl top, black interior, and featured unique golden plaques on the dashboard with the original owner's name engraved. Check out
the ad I found in the January 26th, 1968, edition of the Seattle Times.
(13 photos of a 1968 Candy Apple Red Mustang GT High Country Special Hardtop) Candy Apple Red 1968 Mustang GT High Country Special with a litte bit of front end damage. 250 of these cars were built by the San Jose plant for the Colorado area in 1968 and followed the tradition of GT upgrades and HCS side emblem found on the 1966 and 67 High Country Specials. The 1968 California Special was inspired by the three year successful run of High Country Specials. These HCS models featured a carburetor jetted for high altitude driving, side scoops, a factory fiberglass trunk lid with molded in spoiler, Shelby style taillights, namesake decals, horse delete grille, high-intensity fog/driving lights, hood pins and a stripe decal down each side of the vehicle.
