door data plate This is the door data tag for the this special order Mustang. It reads, 65A hardtop with standard bucket seat interior, blank paint code indicating a non-standard special order paint, 2A black standard bucket seats, 16B schedules for final assembly on the 15th of February, 1968, 721187 ordered in the San Jose area under special order number 1187, 5 3.00:1 standard differential, and W C-4 automatic transmission. Check out the sister to this car, it has the same special order number 721187.

Eastertime Coral Color of the Month Hardtop This car needs restoration but its a special order car. It has special order Eastertime Coral exterior paint as part of the April 1968 Color of the Month promotion. Other upgrades includes a 289ci V8 engine (removed, not on this car anymore), automatic transmission, power steering, AM radio, tinted glass, wheel covers; most of which is missing. This car was ordered with Orville and Ann's Mustang, since it has the same DSO and special order number. The door tag to this car reads 65A blank 2A 15D 513000 2 W; where the paint code is blank.

1968 California Special Mustang Press Release This is a copy of a Ford press release for the 1968 California Special hardtop. The text reads, Ionia, Michigan - Fiber glass components for Ford's recently announced California Special version of the popular Mustang -- designated the Mustang GT/CS -- are being produced by A.O. Smith Corporation's plant here at a rapid pace to keep up with West Coast demand for the sporty model. A fiberglass deck lid with integral racing spoiler lower back panel and body side scoops are among the new Mustang's design features that reflect the definite influence of Ford's 1968 Shelby GT models, built at Ionia by A.O. Smith.

Prototype 1968 Mustang Shelby GT-500 Hardtop This is a dual prototype! It was originally the 1968 California Special hardtop prototype. Then it was sent to Shelby to become the 1968 GT-500 hardtop prototype. It is known as the "Green Hornet" and is still around today! The rocker stripes say EXP 500. As "Experimental".

1968 Mobil Economy Run Official Results This is the official results of the 1968 Mobil Economy Run held from April 2nd through April 4th from LA to Indianapolis. The race was to end in New York but was cancelled on April 5th due to civil unrest across the country because of the death of Martin Luther King Jr. on Thursday April 4th. The Mustang came in 5th place in the Class "A" compact six class. This ad was placed in the April 9th edition of the Bakersfield Californian. This race inspired the 1969 Mustang E special edition. In December of 1968, it was announced by Richard F Tucker, vice president of marketing for Mobil in North America, the event will be cancelled in the United States citing "changing advertising patterns and changing emphasis in automotive performance as major factors influencing the decision."
1967 Mobil Economy Run Official Results These are the official results of the 1967 Mobile Economy Run. The Mustang came in 4th place of the Class "A" compact six and 5th place of the Class B compact eight. The race was held from April 4-10 and raced from LA to Detroit. This ad was placed in the April 11th edition of the Bakersfield Californian.
1966 Mobil Economy Run Official Results This is the official results of the 1966 Mobil Economy Run held from March 14-20 from LA to Boston. The Mustang came in 2nd place of the Class "B" large-engine compact. This specific ad was placed in the March 31st edition of the Wisconsin State Journal.
1965 Mobil Economy Run Official Results This is the official results of the 1965 Mobil Economy Run held April 5-11 and raced from LA to New York. Unfortunately the Mustang was not entered into this competition. There is a photo of the race meeting a train shipment of Mustangs on the road. This ad was placed in the April 20th edition of the Syracuse Post Standard.
1964 Mobil Economy Run Official Results This is the official results of the 1964 Mobil Economy Run which tested fuel economy and comfort on a race from Los Angeles to New York City. Although the Mustang was available for the race, it did not compete. This ad was placed in the April 10th edition of the Delaware County Daily Times.
1963 Mobil Economy Run Official Results Official results of the 1963 Mobil Economy Run which ran from March 30-April 5th between Los Angeles to Detroit. This ad was placed in the April 5th edition of the Pasadena Star News.
